Hi everyone!
Thought I could start this thread for anyone that is applying to the GCC Nursing Program this spring? I'm just getting my portfolio organized and prepared. I have to take the HESI one more time on Feb 24th and attend an info session on Feb 28th and I'm all set. I'm so nervous! But, I'm going to try to be optimistic. I look forward to hearing from you guys :) Take Care~
Has anyone ever gotten a book scholarship at school? I got one and wonder if it can be used on the lab kit or the internet book code we need to get. I want to buy the items I am not getting at the school store and need to figure out which items I'll be getting there. I also need to go find out when that money will be available....
Tomorrow I'm going to call the school and speak to the administrator for the scholarships and ask for specifics. I want to get the rest of my books ordered! The great and fun news for today is.....I just ordered my stethoscope!!! I'm so excited. I am going to be so anxious for it to come. I ordered the copper Littman Classic SE II and got it engraved at Medisave. I wonder how long it will take to be delivered? I think the only 'thing' I have left to order is my pressure cuff. What are you all getting?
Hey, Skeletor, wanna weigh in on appropriate pressure cuff? How about what sort of markers we'll want/need? What kind of shift are you working, btw? We'll be trying to get together again in August!

This is all yous will ever need: http://www.allheart.com/adc760.html (Adult)
You'll use the sphygmomanometer during lab days, at-home to practice with, and, occasionally during clinical shifts when you cannot find a Dynomap (BP, temp, SpO2%, HR machine). Nothing more, I promise. It will not serve you past nursing school, unless you will monitor your BP when you come home from work, so do not invest $ into a fancy model.
Black pen=only legal color allowed on medical charts
Red pen
Highlighter=pending nursing interventions, medications needing to be administered
Black Sharpie=mark bandages, dsgs (wound dressings), pts' belongings
My schedule is (3) 12.5-13.5 hr shifts/week. 12 shifts out of each 28-day work schedule.
Let me know Mom.
I'll let you know, Skeletor! Thanks for the info. Do we have need for a clipboard with storage or anything like that? I remember reading about them on some threads here on the forum.I got the word today, my stethoscope shipped!!
A clipboard will harbor bacteria, spread germs from one pt's room to another, and cause you more grief worrying about "What pt's room did I leave my clipboard in?" than it would prove meaningful.
Fold your report sheets in half, vertically, and stuff them in your cargo pocket.

RN notes will also help you throughout the program and as you start working as a nurse. :)
