Hi everyone!
Thought I could start this thread for anyone that is applying to the GCC Nursing Program this spring? I'm just getting my portfolio organized and prepared. I have to take the HESI one more time on Feb 24th and attend an info session on Feb 28th and I'm all set. I'm so nervous! But, I'm going to try to be optimistic. I look forward to hearing from you guys :) Take Care~
ctine05, i think someone mentioned on here about that planner ..... i ordered that one too (the red one) but ..... i changed my order to the new planner 2011-2012. Ctine, did you order come already? Is it too late to change? Where did you order it from amazon? Maybe you can return and exchange for the new planner. :)
Oh.... I mentioned this to momtofore, but amazon has a fundamentals of nursing taylor 7th edition study guide to accompany our text. I read on allnurses that this will be of use to us. It's certainly not required or recommended by GCC, but I ordered one because I like to utilize all the resources I can get my hands on. :)
Here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/Study-Guide-Fundamentals-Nursing-Science/dp/0781793866/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1305853421&sr=8-2
I am going to preface this by saying I already realize how strange I am. I know there are other words for it too.
I looked at the Fundementals books, which I want to finish by the end of August, and split it into "units" with one unit being 15-25 pages of material. If anyone wants this info, you can email me and I'll give it to you. That said, if you just want to split the book into quarters, it's Chap 1-17, 18-28, 29-36, and 37-46.
SJerseygrle, you are right up my alley with those sort of divisions, lol. How many units does that work out to? Knowing that will help me decide if I want to go that route or not.
I am about to make up a study schedule for the summer. I am going to reread A & P 1 & 2, Microbiology and Medical Terminology in addition to the Fundamentals book....in addition to working 30+hours a week and doing projects here at home. Yeah, I'm going to have a life!! LOL
I'm soooo glad I'm not alone in this!
There are 85 Units. I would be happy to send the list if you want. I am going to see how I do and if by mid-June I am falling behind... I will cover the "recommended" reading and I am going to skip to Chapters 29-36.
Here is my reasoning: having looked at the book, those chapters will be what is covered around the third exam. The material looks like the most "nursing" type of material, rather than stuff you could learn elsewhere applied to other things. The third exam is usually the hardest and the most difficult part of the course combined, so having pre-read that section will actually be the most helpful. Just my 2 cents!

momtofore, anytime after noon on June 2nd works for me :) I switched my summer schedule to early morning instead of afternoon.
