Hi everyone!
Thought I could start this thread for anyone that is applying to the GCC Nursing Program this spring? I'm just getting my portfolio organized and prepared. I have to take the HESI one more time on Feb 24th and attend an info session on Feb 28th and I'm all set. I'm so nervous! But, I'm going to try to be optimistic. I look forward to hearing from you guys :) Take Care~
Ok guys, i heard back from the professor she said she doesn't recommend more than one top left pocket on the scrub tops..... however she said you can have as many pockets as you want with the cargo pants if you'd like. She says the reason she only recommends one pocket on the scrub top is because when students have more than one pocket things tend to fall out. I also emailed her about the lab coat. I wanted to know if it could be 3/4 sleeve. I'm waiting for her response.
Thanks, dannipoint! One pocket it is then! I wonder how long the coat can be, too. I think Skeletor said to get long!
Don't go nuts w/the lab coat, it wasn't mandatory; it's more or less for your clothings' protection against lab equipment.
You only need it for the "Pinning Ceremony" May 2013 . . .
I took CPR at Cooper.
There were quite a few GCC students who wore their lab coats while they were here training, fyi. They had long and shorter coats.
I began reading an NCLEX prep book yesterday - a friend of mine said you should start studying for it from the beginning - and it's really interesting to see the analysis of the questions and what you need to learn. A little bit intimidating because it highlights the stuff I don't know (medications, etc.) but helpful nontheless.
I am making a plan to study the fundementals book - i was thinking maybe if I use it to do biceps curls I could learn and get in shape at the same time LOL.
Today I shadowed one of the good nurses on the med-surg floor where I work. It was interesting. She let me figure out a new dosage amount of argatroban for a patient whose PTT was below the theraputic amount by following the protocall (of course both she and pharmacy also did the calcs:D). I watched her drain some Jackson-Pratts and document that and I/Os for patients, change an ace bandage/dressing for someone, mix contrast, change IVs, give meds. Along the way she told me how she keeps track of her med needs for her patients, her system of doing things, how to document in EPIC, and she was really nice about answering all my questions about why we were doing everything and all the what ifs I could think of. She also showed me her trick for making a hot compress for a patient whose IV had infiltrated.
It was only for a few hours but it really made me feel more confident. I'm hoping I can do it a few more times before school starts so I don't make a complete idiot of myself in clincials.
I am also going to ask one of the techs to let me shadow him because I think our first clinicals are going to be more in that vein.
I can't wait to meet you guys!
Momtofore: BTW, I can meet up day or night on the nights I sent and I could do a lot more days than the list I sent but before 6P I would have to bring my daughter with me.

Oh wow....... sorry I meant Tuesday..... lol. Forgive me, I'm a little stressed out.
I'm not sure..... i think the paper said that the books shouldn't be used because we need the accompanying cds along with the books.
