Gloucester County College Nursing Fall 2011 Hopefuls?

Hi everyone!

Thought I could start this thread for anyone that is applying to the GCC Nursing Program this spring? I'm just getting my portfolio organized and prepared. I have to take the HESI one more time on Feb 24th and attend an info session on Feb 28th and I'm all set. I'm so nervous! But, I'm going to try to be optimistic. I look forward to hearing from you guys :) Take Care~

I did a search on here about hemostats that largely consisted of 'do you ever use them' or 'what do you use them for' themes. The most popular answer was for undoing tight IV lines, lol.

So we can have more than one pocket on our shirt? Yay!

On medisave there are 32" and 40" lab coats. When I read up on lab coats on here it looked like the long type (longer than 40"?) are what doctors wear. I guess I'll need to go to Best and check things out!

Hey everyone! Wow, there has been a lot going on on this forum while I was gone. Thanks for all the helpful information Skeletor. I was wondering the same things about the labcoat. I'm assuming the lab coat is mandatory, correct? Do we have to wear it q lab day? Because if that's the case I may not need the patches for the polo shirts.

actually i think it might be allowed.... i saw on the cover of the 2011 nursing packet that some of the women had 3/4 sleeves.

Hi Everyone! I won't be able to make it on the 20th- we have a wedding that night.....

I actually bought my scrubs, shoes, and steth on medisave's website (they engrave for free). 10% off because of nurses' week as well. I'm short, so I ended up getting Navy pants in petite size and white scrub shirts as well. The pants were 11.99 and the shirts were 8.99 (I think).......the nursing shoes are Cherokee brand and they are super comfortable! (39.99). Good luck to everyone with the shopping! I only have to go get the patches....and I guess I'll be getting those next week.

Wow, that's so weird . I have a wedding to go to that night too lol it's at 6 though . Momtofore, I can probably make it from like 4-5/5:30? I've missed so much on here. Lol I'm so behind in the convo now lol so I take it medisave is a pretty good website?

Cherokee has a scrub top that has one chest pocket and two lower pockets....love it! Dickies has a top that has just the left pocket. Do we know if we can have more than the required chest pocket? I'd love to order these while they're on sale!

Once I pay shipping on the pants they work out to the same price as Best's. Though maybe if I order more I save on the shipping considering...

I'm pretty sure we can only have the one pocket on the tops but the pants can have however many pockets you want. Which kind of sucks. I've talked to some students that are in the program now about it.

LaVidaDolce, medisave is a great website. You can get your stethoscope plus free engraving! And..... thanks for letting us know about the scrub top..... I think just to be safe we might want to email our professor and see if she approves of the particular scrub top we want.

hey, does anyone know if the nj and federal fin aid are two seperate things? Bc i just got denied fin aid for fall 2011-spring 2012 term from the state of nj. But, i'm not sure if the pell grant is seperate..... did anyone elses fin aid go through on the gcc portal yet?

Hey everyone!I got all of my supplies, now I just have to get the rest of my books and my uniforms.Did anyone get their shoes yet?I have a black pair of sneakers that I was just going to use, but I'm not sure if I would rather have nursing shoes.Also has anyone purchased the books that are recommended but not required? I was just going to get them off eBay because their a lot cheaper.

Sadly, I wont be able to make the get together next Friday, I already have plans:(.I really want to meet everyone before the program starts so hopefully we can have another one.I have the CPR class on Tuesday night (May 17th) at the Continuing Education Center.Is anyone else going to be there?I can maybe meet some of you there:)!

I also applied for financial aid, But haven't heard if I've been approved for that yet.How do you know you were denied?I did receive a Student Eligibility Notice the other day in the mail regarding grants and scholarships, but I haven't been told whether or not I'm getting one.I tried calling the number on the grant paper, but it was busy and I also emailed them but haven't heard back from them yet.I'm so confused lol.

Ctine05, i bought all the books since it's probably beneficial to have them for dosage calculations and care plans. I also got the how to survive nursing school and planner book..... i bought all the books online.... except the nursing skills version 2.0 i bought that from the bookstore, i just have to pick it up which i'll probably do on monday.

As for the shoes, i didn't get mine yet but i will probably go with black sneakers preferably sketchers. Zappos has pretty good ones.
