Gloucester County College Nursing Fall 2011 Hopefuls?

Published

Hi everyone!

Thought I could start this thread for anyone that is applying to the GCC Nursing Program this spring? I'm just getting my portfolio organized and prepared. I have to take the HESI one more time on Feb 24th and attend an info session on Feb 28th and I'm all set. I'm so nervous! But, I'm going to try to be optimistic. I look forward to hearing from you guys :) Take Care~

nurd, that's great that you got most of your supplies! I haven't shopped for uniforms yet, but will be very soon. I'm excited! Did you get a lab coat as well?

Nurd can't make it that night :sniff:

Glad can't make it that week :sniff:

Sammy can't make it that month :sniff:

We may have to do this more than once!

So far dannipoint, SJerseygrle and myself.

I hope I hear from some more of you!

I think I'll go shopping at medisave....if only I was ready for my stethoscope! Nurd, which scrubs did you buy?

I feel so bad. Once my kids are done school I promise I will have more time. And I hope to have more get togethers over the summer. We will need it before school begins! We are just so busy now between the two kids. Which will soon be coming to an extreme halt!! I feel so behind, you guys have alot of the shopping done. I do have my stethoscope which is a Littman Classic, but that is about it. Have a GREAT time next Friday.

Cherokee has a scrub top that has one chest pocket and two lower pockets....love it! Dickies has a top that has just the left pocket. Do we know if we can have more than the required chest pocket? I'd love to order these while they're on sale!

Once I pay shipping on the pants they work out to the same price as Best's. Though maybe if I order more I save on the shipping considering...

We can plan to do another one in August before we start. How's that? Sammy, you'll have to make it then. No more baseball!

What kind of length is anyone looking at for lab coats?

The longer length lab coats from "Best Uniforms" are what was our recommended coat style.:twocents:

"RN" we a busy bunch :lol2:

Danni,

Yea I might purchase the blood pressure cuff on allheart, I found some nice ones.I got the bandage scissors on medisave and they look like the ones that you found on ebay.I also found some really cute watches on allheart. They have military time on them too.It doesn't say that we need a specific color, so I guess anything is fine. They werent really specific with anything lol. I'm still trying to figure out the hemostat though not sure which one to get.

You'll most likely pick up a free pair during your clinical rotations from pharmaceutical sales vendors.

Not once did my clinical cohorts nor I use our hemostats. In fact, they were only used to dangle "tape" from our scrub/polo tops; tape that was used for IVs and wound care dressings, while others routed their stethoscopes through a roll of tape.:twocents:

I did a search on here about hemostats that largely consisted of 'do you ever use them' or 'what do you use them for' themes. The most popular answer was for undoing tight IV lines, lol.

So we can have more than one pocket on our shirt? Yay!

On medisave there are 32" and 40" lab coats. When I read up on lab coats on here it looked like the long type (longer than 40"?) are what doctors wear. I guess I'll need to go to Best and check things out!

Thanks for all your help, Skeletor! Are YOU available on the 20th??

Lab coats are worn only during lab days :)

Lab coats are used to keep you clean and "safe" in the lab rooms, not during clinical rotations. Don't spend a lot of money on lab coats.

Personally, I wore mine twice in all of nursing school; once during lab, and the other during "Pinning Ceremony."
