Gloucester County College Nursing Fall 2011 Hopefuls?

Hi everyone!

Thought I could start this thread for anyone that is applying to the GCC Nursing Program this spring? I'm just getting my portfolio organized and prepared. I have to take the HESI one more time on Feb 24th and attend an info session on Feb 28th and I'm all set. I'm so nervous! But, I'm going to try to be optimistic. there's like 12 scissors for 10$.... they are for paramedics but I read on this forum that they work very well. I think bandage scissors are bandage scissors.... but I'm still a little confused with the hemostat.

Oh and does anyone know what color the watch has to be? It says it needs a 2nd hand and I'm hoping to find one with military time.

Where is Skeletor when you need him??? lol :)

Yea I might purchase the blood pressure cuff on allheart, I found some nice ones.I got the bandage scissors on medisave and they look like the ones that you found on ebay.I also found some really cute watches on allheart.They have military time on them too.It doesn't say that we need a specific color, so I guess anything is fine.They werent really specific with anything lol. I'm still trying to figure out the hemostat though not sure which one to get.

I agree with you ctine05. They weren't really specific about anything. Thanks I'll look at allheart for the watch. As for the hemostat I think I might get both the curved and straight one..... just to be safe. They're not that expensive.

I bought a set of scrubs today (so exciting, lol), and re-started reading Fundamentals Success! I had my work physical....they did all my titers and probably the same physical my primary is going to do tomorrow morning, lol. Also another Mantoux! I have to fax the results in from this one (my sister is going to read it) and the one I had done two weeks ago. They require two to be done at least two weeks apart. I can get a copy of my titer results in a week so I'll let the doctor know that tomorrow and we'll move forward from there. That worked out great! I'll get my first shot tomorrow of the one we need to get the series for. Going to get the tetorifice issued next week.

I bought cargo pants and a top and the patches we'll need. I think I got a 10% discount off the tag price at Best because they put it in under GCC. So ask about it! The price was only $2-3 more than Allhearts price after the discount and no shipping so actually works out cheaper. Seems funny to say but there were some really cute scrub tops, lol.

I haven't looked into the hemostat or scissors yet. But last year by BIL and SIL gave me a watch with a second hand for my birthday and I'm going to use that one. Make sure to get something waterproof! Think about how many times we'll splash it from hand washing!

Didn't pick a date yet for getting together. I'm sitting for about 15 minutes before starting dinner so maybe I'll look now!

How about here on the 20th (next Friday)? 4, 5, 6, 7, 8? Haha! We can do it early-ish in case any of you want to go out for the night. This will be my hot entertainment for the night!

I will have mostly healthy munchies for us. If anybody wants to bring any food or anything alcoholic to drink, PM me so I don't duplicate it! Also, can we sound off who will be here so we can know how much to have? I hope a lot of you can/will make it!

Also, I got the hemostat (curved and straight set) from ebay for 4$

I got the bandage scissors from ebay for 2.90 I didn't get the colorful kind, I just got the regular kind.

Also, the nursing skills version 2.0 came in to the GCC bookstore so I was notified to pick that up tomorrow. So.... basically all I need to worry about now is the uniforms, patches, and shoes. :) YAY

momtofore, how many patches did you get? And do they look nice?

I bought 4 patches, but think I really only need 3? Polo shirt, scrub shirt, lab coat. I own more than one polo shirt, but since we only have lab, clinical and class once a week don't think I need to use more than one of each at a time. But I got an extra in case I change my mind. They're pretty basic. Rounded triangular shape, royal/navy background with gold stitching. Attractive though.

Dannipoint, you've got everything else covered?? You've been busy!

Finally finished with spring semester. Just two more pre-reqs to finish in the summer. I need a nap! lol.

Hi Everyone! I won't be able to make it on the 20th- we have a wedding that night.....

I actually bought my scrubs, shoes, and steth on medisave's website (they engrave for free). 10% off because of nurses' week as well. I'm short, so I ended up getting Navy pants in petite size and white scrub shirts as well. The pants were 11.99 and the shirts were 8.99 (I think).......the nursing shoes are Cherokee brand and they are super comfortable! (39.99). Good luck to everyone with the shopping! I only have to go get the patches....and I guess I'll be getting those next week.
