Hi everyone!
Thought I could start this thread for anyone that is applying to the GCC Nursing Program this spring? I'm just getting my portfolio organized and prepared. I have to take the HESI one more time on Feb 24th and attend an info session on Feb 28th and I'm all set. I'm so nervous! But, I'm going to try to be optimistic. I look forward to hearing from you guys :) Take Care~
LaVidaDolce, where did you get your CNA license? I was thinking about working as a nursing aide after the 1st semester of the nursing program. How do you like it? I'm sure you gain a lot of experience that way. Do you work at a nursing home? hospital?
I actually was going to take a CNA class at GCC but then I found out I was accepted into the nursing program, so I will just wait til the first semester ends :) I'm excited!
But, I agree with you. If loans can be avoided that is the best thing, unless your certain you can pay them back. I will most likely have to get loans for BSN because neither of my parents can afford it, let alone my tuition now, that's why I file for FAFSA.
ctine05, I have gotten q thing done except the physical and immunizations (April 25th) and CPR (sometime in may at kennedy hopefully) certification.
Hopefully my doc has my immunization records and I'm hoping I just need Hep B 1,2,3. I think I'll get the HPV shot too while I'm there, since I haven't had that yet.

I took the class at GCC. I've been a CNA for almost a year. I became one to see if I really wanted to become a nurse. Which I decided I am certain lol I enjoy my job. It can be challenging sometimes because I take care of 10 people at a time at a nursing home. I originally wanted to work at a hospital but they want experience. So I figured working at the nursing home would help me with that. Lol
It's been a week and I'm still waiting on my high school for my immunization record. Lol I'll call tomorrow and see what the deal is
LaVidaDolce, that's great that you have your CNA before starting the program since most of the first semester is basic CNA stuff. You have a leg up, which is nice huh? lol Will you be working part time while in the program?
I know a lot of hospitals want experience first before they hire anyone. Makes me really nervous but I think any health care experience would be beneficial while in the nursing program, so I'm hoping to work as a nursing aide in a pool at underwood. That would be very convenient and a great way to gain experience.
I guess you pretty much have all the supplies we need, like stethoscope and sphygomanometer?

Yeah, that would be good if you could work in a pool at underwood. Not too many hours and you make money lol I have those items. I don't know what else we need. I'm guessing they will give us info about the uniforms and supplies eventually? Lol

And, I'll probably work part time while still being in the program. It'll atleast give me gas money to get around and all. If I have to cut down days, I think my employer will be pretty accommodating. They're big on education. Lol
That's great! Skeletor told me we would need to purchase a nursing kit at the bookstore..... for around 85$ ..... a steth, sphygomanometer, pen light, hemostat..... but don't worry I'm sure they will send us something in the mail soon. It's only been about 2 weeks since the acceptance letters and time is flying by. lol.

The $85 (or more) nursing kit is in addition to a required stethoscope, sphygmomanometer, pen light, quality bandage scissors, and hemostat . . .
oh momtofore, how was the PPD this morning? I forgot all about it! lol. I will have to wait until April 25th after my physical, hopefully it won't take too long, it would probably be easier just to get it done by my doctor.
I'll be going on the 25th, too! I got too busy getting things done around here and couldn't get out in time. Maybe I'll see you there!

Can you remember what's in the nursing kit, Skeletor? Just curious more than anything.
Hey, I told my two classmates that got into the program about the site and thread tonight. They'll be looking for us. Nice girls, so be good to them! Lol
