They want us to have all these certifications but dont want to pay us for having them. We will soon be required to have NCC for fetal monitoring. They are strongly encouraging RNC. Just wondering if you get paid more at your facility for having certifications.
Our facility is pretty cheap. You get a whopping 35 cents per hr for things like ACLS, PALS, TNCC, ENPC, RN-C, etc. You get 45 cents for BSN and 65 cents for MSN. Whoopee... Oh, and you can only get the additional hourly rate for up to three of those, so even if you had all of them, you'd only get 1.05 more per hr. Sucks.
Not directly, but it counts a lot towards your clinical ladder, which allows you to get an annual percentage increase in pay.
When I say this, I'm referring to RNC only.
There is no additional pay (in fact, it's expected and required) for stuff like ACLS or NRP. There is no additional pay for BSN or IBCLC. Howevever, my facility is big on continuing education and will pay for you to take the classes and sit for exams. Every employee gets something like $2000/year for stuff like that.
I am chemo certified and we are not required to have this cert, and half of our staff refuse to administer it. We do not get paid extra.
Even if we wear OSHA safety gear, a study done by OSHA shows that nurses administering chemo had it in trace amounts in their urine. NIOSH also states that women of childbearing years should not administer teratogenic chemotherapy (which I think all chemo is a teratogen to some extent).
Just took care of a Onc nurse with leukemia.....so sad!
That probably only counts in non-union hospitals. Annual pay increases are automatic and built into the contracts of union hospitals.
Every facility I've worked at provided annual performance raises. The clinical ladder is above and beyond that. I've worked at three facilities that offered a clinical ladder and an increased pay percentage for things like leadership, writing P&Ps, conducting inservices, publishing papers, getting one's RNC, etc. It's a whole process and you have to submit a portfolio. I've never done it because the idea is exhausting to me, and you have to maintain it annually.

I've worked for 3 different union hospitals, all in the same region, but have never seen this done. Interesting.

We have different levels of cert. pay. Based on the requirements to obtain/maintain certification. I am Med-Surg certified, and receive a $500 bonus each quarter.
