Georgia Highlands College Fall 2011

Published

Hello everyone. I just applied for admissions for the fall 2011 program a couple weeks ago.

Has anyone esle applied as well? If so what is your GPA and ACT score if you don't mind me asking.

My gpa is a 3.0, or higher because I have grades that have not posted, and I took the ACT over 13 years ago with a score of 18.

Thanks

Thanks for the info I Run 4 Fun! and have fun celebrating :D

on that website you have to enter other school.

Anybody have an idea of how many set of scrubs we are going to need? Do we HAVE to wear them to class every day or only during clinicals? Trying to plan my budget... oh yeah, shoes. I didn't see an guidelines on those. You guys seen/know anything?

Normally You buy 2 pair since you have clinicals twice a week.

You do not have to wear them to class, unless you would like to. The Marietta location has a dress code, business casual or scrubs, so many of the students choose to wear scrubs in place of the dress code. Plus you need a lab coat. You can purchase the optional jacket that matches the scrubs if you like, but it is not mandatory. I used mine first semester since it was cold out when were went to clinicals, and I did not second because it was so hot. But if you are cold natured you might one to get one.

There is a uniform shop in Rome, Lynn's Uniform and they will put the patches on for you, but they do get busy.

Shoes need to be ALL white, with backs. I recommend the wolverine clogs, I got them at life uniform, they are extremely comfortable.

How do you know what books to get? I know they will tell us on 20th, But how can we check ahead of time? I called advantage students and talked to Mark and he did not know anything about a code which we need to register on 20th, he said he would look into it and call me back. I also called certified back ground check and their price for both is 90.00, but they give you a password and it is sufficient for the code we need on medical form we turn in on 20th.

Sorry, I just read previous post's and saw the info about books. I am taking CPR certification at Kennestone this sat. from 9-3 and it cost's 55 dollars.

@Fawn911... thanks for lurking around here to answer questions!! Do you mind if I ask what your schedule is like at the Marietta Campus? And one other question... were there any books on the Nurs 1101 list that were never used/waste of money and any suggestions of extra books that are helpful?

TIA

Hello!

For everyone that has been accepted for fall, I went ahead and set up a Facebook page.... Since most of us do not "know" each other yet and we might like to go ahead and get acquainted, Facebook is a good way to do so.... Plus, this could be a really great resource not only for now before the semester starts but also for after we get started..... It is a closed group so you must request to be admitted. I have set this up the way the Spring class set theirs up... and it should be closed and contain only members of the class according to the "powers that be" within the nursing administration.

Here is the link.....

Congrats to everyone....

For those who did not get accepted this time.... I am sorry and I know how you feel.... but don't give up!!!!!

Hi, I think we need to BLS certification not the CPR? I was confused when I read the paper. I already have both but, it said BLS; I think they go hand in hand. Not sure. Thanks for the info. ENF 1 is looking for a place to go take hers. Can you tell me again where you found the books? Also, I heard that everyone is going to Rome for fall 2011.

There was sheet in the package titled "Procedure for Required Background Check..." down on the very bottom it gives a process the student must follow when obtaining a background check - item 3 said to select Other schools/hospitals (if using advantagestudents.com). That's what I put.

As for the books... I went to the campus bookstore and looked under Nurs 1101. There is a list of 14 (?) required books and 5 optional books. It didn't list the ISBN numbers but I wrote down all the titles/author/edition and put the info into Amazon until I found the right textbook. (the bookstore does show the book cover so that helped!) Amazon is usually cheaper so I am going that route for books.

That's my two cents for tonight... now I am off to celebrate with the hubby and kids!

Hey guys..... I will tell you that based on information I have from my friends that are in the spring class, WE DO NOT NEED TO PURCHASE BOOKS OR SCRUBS PRIOR TO OUR REGISTRATION DATE ON JULY 20TH.... Clinicals aren't until the 2nd 8 weeks of the semester.... also.... there has been discussion amongst the nursing administration that they may require that all your nursing books be purchased from the GHC bookstore and not from other outlets such as Amazon, etc.... Just a heads up.... I know you want to get everything done and get ahead of the game but, all they want you to do between now and July 20th is the paperwork requirements and let them instruct us and lead us into the rest of the requirements.....

p.s..... the people that went ahead and got uniforms and books this early in previous semesters ran into issues.... and of course the instructors explained that the letter and checklist in the packet does not require you to go out and purchase these things prior to the Keys to Success workshop and registration...(July 20th)....

I did mine through Advantage and you make the password when you register.... then once it is complete they will send you an email... you share your password, etc. on the form so the school can access what you have ordered..... You are paying for this and you make the information with which to access it... then you choose to share it with the college by providing them that information..... it was $78.50 for both the background check and drug test and Advantage is the site most used by GHC nursing students....
