just curious what field of nursing we all hope to work in one day? or what field we are interested to start out in?

for myself someday i think i would like to work in labor&delivery, but first i want to start out in med-surg. i want some experience and a chance to work on the skills i learn before thinking of l&d.

I would like to do some med-surg and then possibly go onto the OR maybe, or I feeling a calling towards working with oncology.

ICU all the way!! And CRNA someday!!!

Critical care has always been my favorite, lots of actual nursing and decision making and usually 2 patients per nurse. If I wanted to pass pills all day to 6-8 people I would have become a pharmacy tech :)

I'm not saying all other specialties are pill passers by the way so no flames please ;) In the hospital I work the number 1 complaint is that with 6-8 patients with like 10-20 drugs each there is little time for actual patient care. It makes me sick that hospitals operate like this but I guess that's life :(

Specializes in OB-Gyn/Primary Care/Ambulatory Leadership.

Also planning on L&D/postpartum here. I'm taking the IBCLC exam in 2007, and I want to help new mothers with breastfeeding.

I've decided, though, that I'm going to keep my options open, as I think OR might interest me.

i really want to work in ob or pediatrics......and eventually, my dream is to work the nicu :)

Wow, I really don't know. I have a few ideas of where I would like to end up. I do know where I would like to start out: Med/surg. I'd like to work there for awhile then move on.

The areas that stand out in my mind are L&D, ER, peds., or hospice work. Only time will tell, I am interested in all of those for different personal reasons...I am definately keeping all of my options open and after I become an LPN I will finish a few more pre-reqs for ADN. I want to be happy in whatever I choose:). Who knows, I could find that i am extremely happy doing med/surg. Who knows:)

I think I would like to work in PostPartum as a LVN, and then once I am a RN, I would like to work in L&D. Although, anywhere on the baby floor really interests me.:)

Peds, Mother/Baby, Nursery- ultimate goal is NICU.

Specializes in Med-Surg, Trauma, Ortho, Neuro, Cardiac.

Have thought about critical care for years, but seem married to med-surg and lovin' it. :)

I want to start in ICU and try to get some good experience there to make myself more marketable to other hospitals. I think I will end up in geriatrics of some sort or hospice. I really like older people. It is almost as if they have come into their true selves. I truly respect the "tell it like it is and don't beat around the bush" attitude I have seen with the older people.

I'm interested in this discussion.... I have a question...

Upon entering Nursing school, did you all have an interest towards a specific field? And, did the experience of clinicals totally change your mind and gravitate you towards another? In other words, where did you have your mind set to where you wanted to be, but where did you/or do you think you'll end up??
