Is Boston good for jobs for new grads?
Yes, the BIG difference will be to get rid of the "new grad" status. SSHosp will not hire new grads, either. Although I noticed the Jordan has reduced its qualifications to 3mos. experience and showing 'evidence' of furthering your education... I want to go for my BSN or MSN, but it would be great to be somewhere that will help me do so!

If you are a New Grad with an ADN... forget about it... to ADN's, Boston says "need not apply" and "not welcome".... nice, huh? So much for all that work!!

Nursing Assistant VS. Telemetry Tech position
THANKS so much for your replies... I think I've arrived at the same conclusion. I really want to build my confidence in patient care. I need more than just one clinical night a week for school. I will feel more confident to not be in my school uniform on the floor, feeling like part of the team. I also will have the opportunity to be floated to the ER on some nights. THANKS again for your input, I appreciate it!!

Nursing Assistant VS. Telemetry Tech position
I was wondering if I could get some good feeback from some experienced nurses as to which position would be more valuable for my future. I am a nursing student (RN) and have the opportunity to work as a Nursing Assistant on a heavy med-surg/ortho floor OR as a Telemetry Tech. My ultimate goal as I become an RN, is to be in the ER or a Critical Care Unit. I have one year left as a student and I want to use it wisely. THANK YOU!!

Medical Center of the Rockies - Loveland
http://medctrrockies.org/mcr/MCRHome.html Anyone know anything about this new hospital being built? Wondering how large of a facility it will be. Is it considered a smaller community hospital, or does it have plans to be a larger trauma hospital? Looks like they are hiring already.

Rn Student Interested In Er
Hi, I am currently a student, in my second semester of 4. I am wondering at which point it would be best to get certified in PALS, ALS... etc... if I am interested in working in the ER as a new grad. Would it help to have those under my belt before I graduate? Or would it make more sense to get them after graduation and I'm working. Wondering if it would give me more leverage when looking for a job, as a new grad in the ER. Any advice would be much appreciated!! thanks!

Getting Your First Job - RESUME BUILDERS
Just wondering what really helps in getting your first jobs after school... I'm still in school and am making a career change, so my experience at this point is limited. Wondering if it helps to be doing things like, volunteering in the Medical Tent for the Marathon (I'm in Boston) and we also have a Medical Reserve Corps, that I'd like to be a member of, in case of emergency situations. Wondering if things like this can benefit my resume. I'm sure you know, it's tough to fit it all in when going through school... but, does every little bit help, like the volunterring and showing the initiative outside of school, when you are going for your first job interviews? THANKS!

Quincy College students/grads?
hi! I, too will be starting the Nursing Part-time program in Jan. '06! I'm very excited and nervous. I've also found the "secrecy" issue with the school and program. I've found it helps to either call or e-mail Tracy Wallace, she's been very helpful. I'm awaiting any Orientation information, too. I've been at Quincy for 2 years now, completing all the pre-req's and chipping away at all the non-nursing classes. I'm a Mom of 3 kids, too, and I work part-time. My husband is a SAINT. It will be nice to meet you in January! I've met some great people there following the same dream, and it's nice to have good friends to help us through this crazy journey. Best of luck and stay in touch! Mara

Waiting Period
hi, I applied a year ago this past May for the Part-time January 2005 RN program... was waitlisted and did not get called... I will be starting the program January 2006. So, in the meantime, have been knocking out all my non-nursing classes to get them out of the way. I hear there's better luck getting into the LPN or Full-time RN programs.. the big wait is the Part-time RN program.... GOOD LUCK!!!

Anyone an RN-EMT?
Thanks so much for all the great advice and information! What a great forum... thanks!

Anyone an RN-EMT?
Forgive my lack of knowledge... I am wondering how an RN adds the EMT to their credentials... must they go to a separate EMT school, or can you evolve into one by working the ER or other Critical Care?? My long-term goal is to be a Flight/Transport Nurse, and that is one of the credentials you must have. Any info. is great! THANKS.

Any Quincy college graduates
It's been awhile, but you have a few hours to take it, and it only took me one hour. Basic Math... fractions, decimals, word problems, not really much algebra. You have to read paragraphs and answer questions about what you read... pick out proper grammer/sentence structure.... don't sweat it!
