I'm taking pharmacology right now. It's a lot to do in 5 weeks with 3 kids that are out of school and a husband who works long hours.

I have a test tomorrow, so he worked from 10 yesterday to 10am today so he could take off today and I could get out of the house and do some serious cramming.

I finally get to the library (which is more like a little study room at our satellite campus) and there's a young guy here. His cell phone is going off almost non-stop, loudly, alerting him and everyone in the room to every email and text message he's getting. I guess he needs the volume all the way up so he can hear it over the iPod he's listening to. The iPod that is also on some ridiculously high level so I can hear his techno through his ear buds from across the room. At one point his phone rang and he had an entire conversation at a normal volume in the room!

I asked him if he could silence his phone (letting the iPod thing go) but now I feel extremely old. Especially because I got an uber attitude from him and his phone is still going off, just a little quieter, and now he only has the first half of his convos in the room before leaving.

At 27, have I finally kissed my "cool" years goodbye? How in the world do people study like that? Maybe I'm just a rare person that likes absolute silence when I'm working - but what about consideration for the people around you? Honestly, if you work fine in chaos, staying at home would probably be just fine.

Ok, vent over. Back to work.

Lol I feel you on that one. I can only study in complete silence too. How inconsiderate of that boy, it's affecting your study time and you have every right not to be distracted in that way. You aren't asking him for much, if it were me and he continued I'd go tell one of the librarians or monitors about him. That isn't right. I hope you're able to get your studying done in peace and quiet.

 Feel better? It's frustrating the inconsiderate behavior of others. I happen to be ok with noise...but that is why I gravitated toward the emergency department.

Good luck on you test!

You're still cool. It's the douchebag with the phone who needs a lesson in common courtesy.

That's crazy. You are not old at all. People are becoming more ignorant these days with a side of attitude. I wouldn't have let him go that long with his phone going off. The staff have should of taken care of that individual.

I HATE INCONSIDERATE PEOPLE! Like people on cell phones in movie theaters, loud children in stores and my list goes on and on!

My school's library is a 100% quiet zone in the books and study areas. The library has the most awesome thing... there is a phone number that is posted all over the library and you can text the phone number and report disruptive people anonymously. If people want to be loud and study they can rent a study room or study at the student center.

Cool has nothing to do with it. He is just a jerk, and they come in all sizes, ages.........

I personally need some kind of background noise, whether its TV or music on low. If its dead quiet, I get distracted. If it is too noisy, I get distracted. No win situation. I would've told the douche-bag, "To silence it, and himself, or take a hike. We're in a library for pete's sake!" Oh, you said that. :lol2: Honestly, that was pretty rude of him. I'm amazed you got any studying done at all. Good luck tomorrow on the test. :)

You aren't old, he's a jerk. I am old and can use that excuse. You can't until you're at leads 35! :lol2:

People are just so self absorbed now that either have no clue that their actions affect others or they just don't care.

I don't know about you, but I haven't kissed my cool years goodbye yet (at 33), we're just considerate enough to know that this kind of **** is rude and annoying :) I'm guessing he probably just doesn't get it, it seems like he's a person who thinks the world revolves around him and has no consideration for anyone else. Our library has a pretty strict 'no noise' policy, report his ass next time. I'm in a similar situation as yours with 3 kids at home and a husband who is always at work and it really sucks that your study time, which is so valuable, was disrupted by this. Maybe next time, grab your beach chair and find a nice spot outside, under a tree or something, with no one in sight.

I carry ear plugs with me just for that reason.

here goes my :twocents::twocents: cents on the subject, i'm the type that i can concentrate with an earthquake around me i strongly believe it's on account when i lived in new york city and my then apt. was across from the hospital where i worked then, therefore, i got use to all the sirens and noise of the city etc. however, like the op once i'm in an environment where is nice and quiet my senses become more alert and i can hear the least amount of whispers or someone smacking their gum. needless to say, that's when i pullout my mp3 and this remedies the issue, so i say "if you can't beat them join them"
