Can we start a new forum for "older" student nurses

Nursing Students General Students

it seems there has been tons of interest concerning us "older" students. :chuckle you know, 35 and older who started the whole process late. everytime someone asks if "anyone else is out there? " the thread is flooded. it would be great to have our own forum like the "male nurse forum". if not a forum, how 'bout a sticky??? thanks for considering us older, wiser, (hah) and second career-ers!

YAY, I'm not in the older student group, here in the UK you are consider a mature student at 26.

I think it would have a good idea, but think there is so overlap as some younger students have the same issues as older students.

I think we could do with a international student forum as at time we have the same issues there are so many things that are so different.

wow to all of you am I to old? I'm 46. I feel I have to do this, I remember

when I was very young, I loved to smell of bandaids and the hospital but life happened and I had to support my two children, (one with Quad cp)

and another 9 years younger! anyone out there I could talk to so I don"t

feel so alone?:uhoh21:

We have a club at my school called OWLS - Older Wiser Learning Students. It's campus-wide, not just for the nursing department... but we have quite a few nursing members. I was actually Vice President last year. It includes anyone who is a non-traditional student - over the age of 25 or with adult responsibilities such as marriage/children, etc.

Wow! that is sooo cool. I will definitely look into a support/study group when i enter nursing school.

Also this is for men/women and any age who feels they can relate to being kinda a minority i guess, not the norm.

My school has something similar - WOW (Women On the Way) It's for women returning to school, although men can join if they want to. (But with the name being what it is....)

I'm 38 and a single mother who is currently an accountant. I am re-entering school to be a nurse now for pre-requisites and in 3 years when my son goes off to college I will be alone and can do an accelerated nursing program while keeping my day job.

I will really be feeling old then.

i am 40 and apply for the fall semester. struggling through a difficult semester and struggling to keep a b in algebra. sometimes i feel too old and stupid :lol2: to be doing this but i cant imagine doing anything else. know how ya feel

I'm in the 40-something crowd. Saw a tee-shirt once that said: "I'm not 40-something. I'm 39.95 plus shipping and handling" So maybe a 39.95+s/h forum?

I'll be 50 this month....I don't FEEL old except when I look or think about that number!!

I will have completed my last prereq when A & P II is over on the 12th....I have really struggled in this class and started wondering if my marbles were getting lost!! (My lifetime GPA is about 3.8) I know it's a lot of stress due to my home life, but nonetheless....

Anyway, I know I'm encouraged by finding out there are students even older than me doing this; I hope this helps you 30- and 40-somethings feel better!! I enjoy school and look forward to starting an RN program in the Fall of '06!
