Burning out

Nursing Students General Students

I'm in my 3rd semester of an ADN program and feel like I am going to fall over from exhaustion. I am so tired. We are in class 8 hours a day for the summer and even our instructor said she's boring herself standing and talking that long. Then we have clinic for 10 hours a day, go home do care plans, work on your summer group project, go to work, help your kids with whatever needs to be tended too, wash clothes, go grocery shopping...................well you get the picture. A part of me really would look forward to not passing this semester just so I could get a break for a semester. I've also lost my umph about school at this point also. Is there anybody else feeling the same way? :o

It took me 4 years to go through ADN program. I took summers off. Best thing I every did. Some people went straight through in lot less time and were a lot more beat up. I enjoyed myself. Some times a break really helps. My daughter got really stressed out on two occasions. Both time she took a computer credit course for a semester. She said it really made a difference. She is not a nursing student by the way. Working on her MBA.

hmm.

BTDT. the only advice i have is to keep your eye on the prize.

i'm at the end of my adn program and i can honestly say that last quarter i really didn't care. about anything. school, home, etc. just kept plugging along, trying to get through. this quarter has been a little better but i'm soooooooo glad it's almost over.

hang in there. the end will come eventually.

Seewhiterabbit- I did a search, and your last three posts were 'hmm'. I would consider that a trend. A curious trend, but a trend nonetheless.

Sounds like you have a lot on your plate ...the one thing I've learned from nursing is SELF PRESERVATION...skip a semester and regroup if you need to..a little break may give you the much needed rest and mental stamina to go forward...take care of yourself first or nobody else will....best of luck (((hugzzzz)))

I am feeling the same stress...

I am having a really hard time making myself keep up with everything that needs to be done. I considered taking a semester off, but that would mean delaying graduation from December to next August. I just can't afford to do that.

I agree with Rena, keep your eye on the "prize".

Take time to "laugh", I felt that same way you did in December, I'm almost finished now, then 2 months off and starting BSN program in the Fall. Take time to laugh, see a funny movie, laugh with friends. Find some time to de-stress. It's worth it.

i feel drained as the end of each semester approaches and especially the first semester where i almost stop because of school, family, and personal reasons.

as i thought about it [support from a good friend etc, determined, and most of all the faith i have,] my woes gave me the courage to endure until the end.

a day without studying, when i feel too anxious, helps me tremendously.

whatever your decision, all the best.

Why not take a semester off? It will only help you!

Wishing you all the best!:)

I get crazy when I am in the middle of a semester! I can't see straight and I ahve a very tough time. The best part of this whole thing is I have two semesters over and only three more to go! That is what keeps me going, that and watching the senior class graduate. I want to be there too!
