Best Drug Calculations Book

Hello Everyone,

What is your pick for the best drug calculations book? My school recommends "The Nurse the Math and the Meds" but I've read some not so good reviews on it. It was an optional book so I'm thinking about getting another one instead. I was most interested in this one, espcially because of the easy price at 14 bucks.

But then there is also this one that I've seen mentioned here a few times....

Any used these or have other suggestions?

Specializes in ER, progressive care.

Calculate With Confidence is excellent!

Specializes in Family Nurse Practitioner.

I just finished Dosage Calculations Demystified it was helpful it shows formula vs ratio/proportion methods. I prefer formula method. Its very basic, formulas and practice questions but it made it all click for me. There were a few mistakes in some of the answers. I'm doing Math for Nurses now its a lot of basic math review and more indepth but doesn't explain the formula method well. Neither are "text" books just something to help me get a jump start. Our required calculation book hasn't been posted yet?

I got one for myself! Good Luck!

I second Calculate with Confidence. I use this book right before every semester when I know we are going to have a drug quiz that we must pass with 100% or fail the semester. And no matter how much I forget the math, this books does what it says!! There's a CD that it comes with too, but honestly I never really needed to use it. Not only does it teach you the usual stuff like IV gravity drip calculations, insulin, etc. but it also goes so far back into basics, that you literally would not ever need any other math book in your entire career.

I ended up ordering the calculate with confidence book this morning. I wanted one with the hopes that it would be the only book I would need on the topic. Also, it seems to be the most popular and has great reviews on amazon. Ill give it a try!

Thanks for all the suggestions! I wish I could buy them all and create my own library. lol

I haven't taken a math class since high school (more than 14 years ago). So I ordered a copy of Calculate with Confidence from amazon.com... although it was about $62... I bought it anyway because of the wonderful reviews. Also, just as the above poster stated, I plan on using it before each drug calculation exam that we have to take each semester. Wow... need 100% to pass??? At our school, we only 85% to pass.

I wish I could buy them all and create my own library. lol

Me too! I love books!!!! Can't wait to get all my text books for school next week. I checked the list and didn't see any drug calculation books on the list... So I hope Calculate with Confidence is worth the $62 I just paid. lol

nursing math simplified was the book of choice for most of our class. it teaches the basics and the book is not filled with any "fluff", only the information you need to solve the problems.

I've heard good things about Calculate with Confidence but I HATE the above book! The only word I can use to describe it is 'useless'. We were required to get Math for Meds. I think it was a pretty good book even though the calculations we did in class looking nothing at all like the ones in the book!
