question on la charity
hello nurse1123, i just finished that same chapter today. yes, i am guessing that they are basing the rationale on the fact that this task is in the scope of practice for an lpn/lvn. in the real world it is whatever the protocol of the facility, however in nclex world we just know that fingersticks are not in the uap/ nursing assistant's scope of practice. really enjoying this lacharity book!!

Best Drug Calculations Book
nursing math simplified was the book of choice for most of our class. it teaches the basics and the book is not filled with any "fluff", only the information you need to solve the problems.

How did nursing school effect your health?
yep i gained about 20 lbs in a 12month period. my blood pressure shot up from 110/70 to 130/70. and i attribute it to all the sitting around and studying. not being able to cook & feeling guilty if i exercised instead of using that time to study. now i am approaching my last semester & i have to get on board with exercising and preparing healthy meals, otherwise how am i going to be able to provide patient education if i'm not in ok shape. also i'm going to need the stamina to work 12hour shifts!!

Fundamentals of Nursing, Pharmacology, Medical-Surgical Nursing
use your syllabus as a guide and read everything! although you may not see it on any of your class exams, you may never know when or where you may see something again. also it helps to try to read ahead and be prepared for class, but this is not always feasible. it really does help to try to study a little everyday so when it's exam time you are not in a bind trying to cram. cramming does not work in nursing school!!! too much to remember, you really have to know this material in order to connect the dots. do not get frustrated in the first semester if things do not seem to make sense. just hang in there and do your best! a quote my instructor is always saying to us is, "the race is not to the swift, but to those who endure." good work!!!

How to decline a wedding invitation because I'm too busy with school!
you simply state, "sorry , i cannot make it." :crying2:if she is a true friend then she will understand. just as she is celebrating a mile marker in her life, you are trying to complete one in yours. if she doesn't understand then mybe she wasn't a true friend at all. i have learned that while in nursing school, you have to develop a little selfishness, self disclipline, and autonomy. it's up to you, to know when to say when. we are finishing up our 3rd semester now, so only one more to go, and then we can get back to socializing & being unselfish. :)

Discouraged, needs advice
hello, i am in my second semester and what i have found that works for me is to have my reading completed at least 2 to 3 days before the exam so that i can have time to do nclex questions from my nclex review guide. answering the questions and reading the rationales that are relative to the reading helps me to gain a better understanding of the material that i read. i hope the advice you are receiving will help you in some fashion. dont't spend your time focused on what's in the past, move on to what is ahead of you! you can do it!!!

I don't feel prepared for med/surg clinicals
wow, that was an aweful lot to encounter on your first clinical day! don't let it get you down, just look at it as a learning experience as i'm sure you have already. although i do have to agree with you in that the learning experience should have been you actually learning how to give the insulin injection and not writing a paper. i understand what you mean when you say that you don't feel prepared for clinicals. i myself have that feeling sometimes. but no matter what, just stay positive and focused on the light at the end of the tunnel!!!

electrolytes help
hello kenpochic, we just finished our lecture and test on electrolytes. the tip that our instructure gave us on learning the different signs & symptoms was to pick out what was distinct about each one, since some of them shared some of the same signs & symptoms.memorizing is not going to help, we really had to focus in and actually learn them. if you think about how they work in the body you can sort of relate the signs and symptoms.foe example: hypernatremia skin flushed agitation, disoriented, hallucinations low-grade fever thirst i hope this helps.
