I start my statistics class on Monday. I am not looking forward to it at all. I am terrible at math.....of all kinds!! I really want to keep my GPA as high as possible.
Does anyone out there have any advice for me?

Oohhh, I started yesterday... I'm doing the tv version and he's boooooorrrrring! I have decided not to worry about GPA with this class... I just have to get a C. I'm not a math person, or a perfectionist... and with stats you need to get things right... give me a paper to write anytime!
Good luck, Abby!

I never considered myself a "math" person -- barely passed math in high school. I would panic at anything mathematical and always considered myself more of an "english" student than a "math" student. So .... when I started nursing school, I decided to overcome my fear of math. I studied hard and ended up with such a high average in statistics that I didn't have to take the final. My secret -- I memorized the formulas -- wrote out the basic formulas on large index cards. I did my homework & really didn't take shortcuts with it. I skimmed the chapter, then read the chapter -- then did the assigned problems. There is no easy way -- you have to do the work. I would also suggest going to your college's tutorial center -- and go for consistent help -- not just when a test is close.

No help from me - sorry I have done more multiple courses on statistics and have come to only 2 conclusions
1) If I ever need to do statisitcs I will hire a statistician and
2) the bloke who said "There are lies, damned lies and statistics" was right!

I agree that it's very boring! I had a really good teacher, so it wasn't so bad. If you do the practice problems and get help, you should do just fine!

Statistics are not my favourite although I have found some useful easy to understand web sites. The one that was the easiest to grasp was http://bmj.com/collections/statsbk/index.shtml.
Good luck
Thanks for your advice, everyone! And good luck to you too, Sandy! Maybe we can comiserate together this summer since we are in the same boat!

I loved stats in HS and got an A in it. If you need any help, let me know!

Don't get discouraged when you do probabilities. It's the hardest part and our class thinned out quite a bit when we did them. The rest is much easier.

Dont think of stats as math. It is more of a way of thinking I guess.
You will really use it. I use it in everyday life!! I learned so much in that class about critical thinking!! It was hard at the end but I really am glad I took it my first semester because it made me think in all my other classes.
