What did you do before starting Nursing School?

I am starting nursing school in January as im sure many more of you are and I was just wondering what it was that everyone did before they started nursing school. Im thinking about quitting my job at the beginning og December so I could relax a bit and enjoy my "last" month. I was also thinking about taking some of that time to review some anatomy and read a book that I bought called studying tips for beginning nursing students....i think thats what it called. So anyways what did you all do?

I see you are only twenty, so my advice my not apply! Having graduated in May, started working in August and passed my boards in October.....my suggestion is to quit work if you don't need the extra $$ and use this time to get organized. Will you be living on your own? Once you start the nursing program you WON'T have free time. Make some healthy meals for freezing, set up automatic bill paying, clean and organize your home, buy a months worth of underwear :chuckle so you don't have to worry about laundry! Get together with old friends...soon you won't have time to see them at all! Get your study area ready! Have a little fun with a lot of work during school!

My final advice is after you graduate...that is the time you need to take some time to relax, then take six weeks to prepare for your boards (see the NCLEX forum Susanne4,moderator, has lots of good advice) and take your boards before you start work! You will be too exhausted after working all day to study and this way you will know that you ARE an RN when you start work!

Accountant. If I were you I would take that month off. You will be glad you did, once nursing school starts you'll be reading 400-500 pages a week!

I will be starting nursing school in January and let me tell you all, I WILL BE AS LAZY AS I'VE EVER BEEN!!! That was the advice my program manager gave us, so I will take it to heart. I work in a theme park and I will work, but I will not kill myself or stress myself more than I know I will be come January. My advice to you, be L-A-Z-Y!!!:rotfl: :clown:

I start my pre-req's January 18th and I am quitting my job on Dec 30th. Right now I work in insurance and let me tell you.....INSURANCE IS BORING!!!! There I said it. I can't wait to not be sitting on my Butt for 9 hours every day because it just keeps getting bigger that way!

I worked at Wal Mart for 5 years and I quit after I was accepted into nursing school. I am working as a Nurse Aide now. I took a big paycut, but it was worth it. I could have never learned about patient care at Wal Mart. If I could have afford it to stay home while in school, I would do it.

I worked as an assistant manager at blockbuster for a year before nursing school and stayed working one to two days a week while I went to nursing school.

I was (and still am) a Domestic Engineer. lol

I was working part time at Bath and Body Works before starting school. I quit my part time job because school was so stressful for me.

I worked as a groom/assist. trainer at a racetrack, worked in an equestrian supply shop, worked as a chefs assistant and now I am a caretaker at a school plus I do homecare and am going to school at night.

Graduated high school, graduated college, became a single mom, became a stripper, became a dominatrix, became a massage therapist, then got married/had more kids, then started nursing school, worked as a CNA, worked as a nurse extern, now an RN. In that order.

My background really helped as far as being a nurse. I've seen it all. :rotfl:

I was a Certified Athletic Trainer (Sports Medicine/Sports Rehab) then a stay at home mom for 4 years. Now I am in semester 3 of a 4 semester ADN program. Right now I am a CNA on a Rehab floor and I work 2 shifts a month. I also work 1 night a week as a hostess at a local restaurant. Even that is too much :eek: sometimes, but somehow I manage.
