Curious at what the average age is that people are in nursing school?
I am doing my pre reqs now and will be 28 when I start!

Started 3 year Diploma program right out of High School. Graduated and passed the "Boards" at 21!! That was 40 yrs ago this year.
Growing up I NEVER wanted to be a Nurse!! Did so because I just didn't know what else to do.
Have LOVED every minute of Nursing---not the Politics, tho!! And Don't really like the paperwork!!

Started pre-reqs around age 30, started an associates program this summer at age 32. I will be 34 when I graduate. I have a previous bachelors degree in another field, that I got right out of high school. Wish I would have known then what I know now about what I want to be! Oh well, live and learn. I am going to school with 2 kids which is the hardest things I've ever done. THe balancing act is crazy. I think we have age ranges from early 20's to 50's in our class. It is great and you get to meet so many people.

started back to school at 33 and have one more semester of my bsn program, will graduate at 36 yrs old. waited to do the school thing after getting married, having 4 kids and working off/on for the past 15 years. my class has around 65 people in it and the majority are traditional students with only around 15 of us being "old" (over 25). I think nursing seems to attract a lot of second career or the older first timer.

I was 24 when I got my associates for my paramedic and now I will be 29 in January and will be graduating from the RN program at the same school in May 2007! I plan on taking a semester off then hitting the books again, I do not care if it takes me till im 50 to reach my goal of being a CRNA and maybe a flight nurse/paramedic, I will keep on going. You are NEVER EVER to old to go back to school, well until its time to take a dirt nap.

I'm glad I'm not the only oldster only the oldest lol. I have finished my pre reqs and starting Fundamentals for ADN in Jan. I am 55 and I would love to hear advice from other older students. I must admit I am a bit nervous about the age thing.

I got my LPN at 41 and am working toward ADN now then I guess BSN. I wasn't even the oldest in the class. We had a few really young gals, lots of mid to late 20's, some thirties and then a handful my age and 2 older. Good luck and don't worry about your age. Jules
