I realize this thread is a couple years old, but I stumbled on it today and am still in disbelief about such a big coincidence!

I'm a new grad (also from wilmington, de) and I am pursuing perioperative nursing in GBMC's GOR. I had a practicum in the OR and loved it, but received some comments/suggestions about new nurses starting out in the OR. Most of the OR nurses I talked to started out in med-surg and believed that new grads pursuing peri-op nursing should also. I don't know if you've had much experience with new nurses in the OR, but would you strongly suggest that med-surg be the first "stomping grounds" before heading into the GOR?

Also, how do u like working in GBMC's GOR, or just GBMC in general?

This is freaky, because BlueHenRN was my original user name here!

I left GMBC after 2 weeks. It was fine there, but the problem was me. I'm back at Christiana and have been for quite some time. I liked the OR a lot. The benefits left something to be desired, as did the pay, but that's anywhere compared to DE.

I wish you the best in your decision. Honestly, though...if you start out in the OR you're probably going to always be there. But if you are sure that's what you want...well, do it!
