So impressed with the nursing assistants on our floor.

I started on a major surgical/ortho floor a month ago and moved to my permanent shift this past week (3-11). I am really impressed so far with the teamwork of the nursing assistant staff on my shift. They report abnormal vital signs, make sure that post-op vitals are done on time, report if urine output is less than 30 cc/hour or less than 240 for the shift. They all work together as as team, help each other out without complaining, anticipate patients' needs, ambulate patients through the hall, turn them consistently, make sure they have pain medicine before starting CPM. If there's an admission from the ER or post-op call they immediately go set-up the room without being asked. Call bells ring much less than they could because the CNAs are so thorough, but when the lights do go off they are answered promptly. These nursing assistants are invaluable. I actually feel bad and wish I could help them more throughout the shift. It helps me so much to be able to concentrate on the nursing tasks I need to do and know the patients are in really good hands. I feel like it brings quality patient care full circle.

It's always nice when a shift has a great bunch of CNAs. A good CNA is worth his/her weight in gold...but a great TEAM of CNAs, priceless.

That is wonderful!!!

I work in LTC. On most shifts I am blessed with a good group of CNA's. It really makes the shift go by so much better if there is team work.

I want to thank you for posting this. It's nice to see a thread about good CNAs for a change, rather than the usual disclaimer about how "a good CNA is worth their weight in gold" followed by the inevitable "BUT all mine are lazy, insubordinate, and clueless."

That is awesome!! I love great CNAs. Please make sure you tell them/show them how much you appreciate them. Unforuntately, they are tremendously under -appreciated:cry: (by many people).

As a float CNA at the hospital that Sarah works at I can also say that her floor has some of the best CNA's I have ever worked with. I love the craziness of post-ops, and the best part- from the CNA point of view, is that if you can't get to your post-op when they are due for a set of signs, anyone of the nurses or other CNA's will grab the set for you if you ask nicely.

You are so right! A little appreciation goes a long way. So many times as nurses we can forget this, but just by asking, saying thank you as well as letting the CNA know how valuable their input is, really is the start of a great team!

Very often on this site you here people blasting the aids! Its nice to see the OP recognize her support in such a positive way!:yeah: When people are treated with respect more often than not they will bend over backwards to help you and do a great job! So not only do you have good aids but it sounds like you have good nurses aswell!! Keep up the great team work!!:typing
