Smoking Cessation

I replied to "What's in your pocket at the end of the day" and got to thinking about my New Years Resolution.I decided to quit smoking! Yeah I know..Yada Yada Yada.

Smoking made my house, clothes, breath, car, everything smell well like a cigarette. Plus the fact I really dont want to fight to breathe, seen it-don't want to do it!

I am using the Nicotrol Inhaler. I got it the the 2nd of January, just about the time my family was offering to go get me cigarettes!

It takes away the craving. It is like having a cigarette with you.

I like the oral and the tactile sensation of smoking, so this really works for me. It has been 12 days now,I think I can, I think I can....

If you are thinking of quitting, this may help alot. It has for me.

I was hoping this thread would go away and I wouldn't have to confess. But.....I am not doing well at all, I had a couple of slips, then just gave up? Doesn't make sense does it? My husband is a great support, as are all of my kids, grandkids and co-workers, but alas it didn't work for me this time!

I am only buying one pack of cigs at a time(I guess I'm trying to delude myself into thinking 'If I don't buy a carton..') I haven't given up entirely on the idea of quitting, but I'm not sure it's going to work this time.

Duckie--Hope it's going well for you. You may be the inspiration I need. Good luck!:)

Well - I did a lot of research when I quit - read that nicotine addiction is harder to shake than Heroin addiction!!!

After quitting - I believe it! The only way I could was to FIRMLY make up my mind (my own mind-not have someone pressure me into it- I had to be ready) AND I had to turn it over to God!

I guess that's why I could quit after 28 years - cold turkey! - I didn't do it GOD DID!!!!!!!!!:) :) :) :) :) :)

Hi all-

I am on day 3 without cigs. I am taking wellbutrin twice a day and also got a patch on my arm. I'm doing well. I think the wellbutrin helps a lot to cut the craving. Nurse4kids I took the pills for 2 weeks with a quit date written on the calendar. The cigs slowly seemed to be without taste.

I am really optimistic that THIS TIME I'LL QUIT!

Good luck to all of us.

I'm on day 24. Would have smoked 720 cigs during that time period. Have smoked 10. I am trying hard not to smoke but there are some days that I have given in. I am concentrating not on what I have smoked but on what I haven't. With hubby still smoking, it is hard cause I can smell it in the house, not an excuse but it's not helping. He's wonderful and is not smoking when I'm around but it is his house too and I cannot ask for more than what he's doing. He doesn't smoke in the car at all, so he's being great. I wonder if the patches would benefit me or if it's just the "hand to mouth" thing I crave that I am familiar with and used to doing. I am pretty nervous and am eating way toooooo much, gained back a good portion of what I lost. I am just not strong enough to conquer both battles at once. Lots of stress at work and am moving my daughter out, hard on Mom to let go. I am not giving up, I will keep doing my best. I think part of my biggest battle is I am not doing it for me, but for my family who has begged me to. I want to do it for them. I do have to admit that I feel much better, no truck on my chest when I wake up in the morning!!! I figure even if I smoke one a day for a while, that's 29 or more I'm not smoking. Don't want to use the Xanax cause that's a potential problem too, so I'll keep taking it one day at a time. I'm praying for everyone trying to quite. I could diet with no problem but this is a toughie. Shelia, don't give up, hang tough, one day at a time. We can all do this, thousands of others have, we just have to keep trying and never give up. I will admit, it would be easier if my mouth was wired shut!!!:D Stay tough everyone......WE CAN DO IT!!!!

Congrats duckie!!! You're doing great!!!!

Now you KNOW if your mouth was wired, you'd just smoke one Intra-nasally;)

Tomorrow we are having friends over for the playoff game between the Steelers and the Patriots. My best friend smokes and I know she will give me a cig if I ask. I hope I can do without, but I'll be drinking beer. AGGHHH I haven't had one since 1/17. When does the desire go away if at all. Oh I want one soooo bad. How pathetic!!

By the way GOOOO STEELERS!!

This is a pretty neat site that may help some of you. I found allot of info on it when I quit. Hope it helps someone else!

Wellbutrin is usually rx'd 150mg bid. It takes about 3 weeks before you start to feel less desire to smoke. My doc told me that sometimes the dose needed to be increased. Good luck...I'm fighting the same battle. It's SOOOO HARD!!!!!!!!!!!

I smoked yesterday and today (had 4 cigs). I was at my moms house and had a couple of beers with My Dad and just lit up like all my hard work meant nothing.

(sigh)

I will get back with the program again tomorrow. I think I'll be stronger at work.

Oh well folks --- We are only human after all --- just don't let a slip talk you into believing that you're defeated! After all 1 or 2 is a whole lot better than a pack or two!!

best of luck. i decided to quit the same week of finals, with my husband being away with the army. they (the army) paid to put me on zyban and then the patch. well, after some funny psychotic episodes :p i took myself off that and went on the 21mg patch. the only thing that kept me, (and keeps me) from smoking is i don't ever want to go through quitting again.

best of luck. you can do it.

:D :d :D
