I saw this story on 48 hours last night, and I just couldn't believe my eyes. What you will not get to "see" in the article is the cavalier way this man acted when he was responsible for a young man's death.

I have been having trouble w a doctor, he is ordering wacky bizarre stuff for a pt, and I am seriously starting to wonder if he isn't also an imposter who doesn't know that the heck he is doing.

How do you think I should proceed? Should I approach one of the other docs in the practice??

Can you call the state board of medical examiners or better yet visit the office because they have to have their licenses posted in plain view. Jot down the number and contact the SB of Med. Examiners. I'd pursue it. We have had some totally incompetent docs and they can really victimize people who don't have people like us speaking up for them. If you know the other docs in the practice, I'd seriously consider calling them. I'd also document the bizarre stuff to cover your own butt.

Good luck!

Wow - freaky story. Is the guy you're concerned about in a practice by himself?

I saw that show last night as well. Amazing to think that it was so easy for this man to gain acceptance. Hell, I can't even get my annual review at work without having my TB test, yet this guy gains employment all over the place.

Hoolahan, I'd probably discuss this first with your Supervisor or Manger.... Geeze, I don't know. You're right, this is scary, Scary SCARY!!

No, not in practice by himself. That was why I wanted to talk w another doc in the practice, but I have to be very careful. I think I'll discuss it w the DON of our facility.

As far as posting their licenses in the office, you need to read that article. The imposter was able, very easily to get copies of not only the doctor's license, but also his diploma!! Hard to believe this guy fell through sooooo many cracks!!

(DUH) Smacking my forehead - missed the last line of your original post (sorry! :)) Yes - talk to your DON - apparently stranger stuff has happened!

Sheesh. This Barnes guy is a Sociopath who needs to be locked up FOREVER!!!

I had to hand in a copy of my license renewal by Jan. 31 each year. I needed a picture ID, and the hospital got letter from the state board listing those who had renewed.

Having said all that, we actually had an imposter who admitted a "patient" (by telephone) called in orders for increasing Demerol doses for the "patient" and this went on for several days!

It might have gone on forever for all I know, except one day there was 1 demerol short at narcotic count. Someone said "oh I gave that to Dr.______'s patient." The other nurse counting was the daughter of Dr. ______'s Office Assistant. This doctor had not practiced for nearly a year due to cancer surgery.

Turned out this pair had pulled this in two other hospitals here for many days without being detected.

Hoolihan, I saw 48 hours the other night too. I was simply amased at how blase' this guy was about what he had done. He didn't seem the least bit bothered that he had caused someone's death! There should be a nationwide alert put out on him, sent especially to clinics and hospitals.

I'd fer shure check on this doc that concerns you. He may actually be a graduate, but may have a substance abuse problem. We ran into this with 2 young, sharp physicians in our hospital in the 80's who liked cocaine.

Hoolihan.......I think I remember reading somewhere a long while back that a person could find out all kind of information on a doctor....if he/she is actually legit or not.....at any main library branch, so ask your local librarian about how to go about pulling up this information on the name he is using. It's worth a shot! :)

I think you can get a doc's CV (curriculum vitae) online, too, -- try a search. I printed two, obtained online, while I was amassing info for a confrontation with an insurance co and med. group.

what amazes me about Barnes is how long he managed to get away with it.

This is astonishing! And to think he learned it all from a darn chicken!!! Go talk to your DON ASAP. I hope these two never pair up...

:uhoh21: Oh, and please keep us informed
