Hi everyone.

So on Friday around 3PM I received a phone call from a nurse recruiter at a hospital I applied to. I applied to the position online and also applied in person that same day. I was referred to the position by a assistant nurse manager who works on the same unit I applied for.

The nurse recruiter said she received my application for the staff nurse position. She asked me questions about my experience, where I work, and my schedule. Then she mentioned "someone should call you hopefully next week regarding a interview"

So I wanted to know what to do now? I know only Monday passed but I was waiting all weekend for Monday just so that I would get that phone call. I kept my phone nearby all day and didn't get a call from anyone at the hospital.

I don't want the position to be filled. What should I do? Tomorrow morning (Tuesday) should I call the nurse recruiter? Or is that pushing it? Should I wait until Wednesday? Should I call the individual who referred me for the position and ask her maybe? I really hope I get this I really position. I know she said hopefully so does that mean that there's a possibility I won't? Or did she mean hopefully I get a call this week not next week?

Is anyone familiar with the hiring process at hospitals? Usually does the recruiter contact you? How long afterwards does it take to get a call for a interview?

All suggestions and help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I know that you are anxious to find out about this potential new job. However, I would advise you to wait for the call from the recruiter. If you do not hear from her by Thursday afternoon, consider calling back. I would give the recruiter space and not make him/her feel pressured. Best of luck! I hope you get the job.

[quote=Lev thank you so much! I know I really am anxious. I just really want this job!! :(

You're right I don't want to pressure her at all. I guess I will wait until Friday morning. It's going to be hard but I'll try my best haha.

Thanks for your well wishes! :)

I wouldn't even call Thursday, tbh...

You were told you may get a call this week, so wait out the week since you weren't given specifics. Next Monday, imo, would be the appropriate time to follow up with an inquiry.

Don't give the impression that you confuse ambition and impatience.

Good luck!!!

If you do not hear anything by afternoon on Friday, then I would call and just say that you did not receive a call from them,

I would even go so far as to wait until Monday.

Good luck and best wishes!

In thinking of waiting until tomorrow (Wednesday) and then calling the individual who referred me and ask if she knows the status of my application. I won't call the recruiter until Friday or Monday

Realize that many positions are being filled, not just yours.

HR has a huge job processing the information. NM said, "hopefully next week." She is requesting an interview with you, but realizes that it takes time for it to be arranged.

I have waited weeks for an interview. The bigger the hospital the slower the process.

Maintain professionalism .. and wait for the call.

I have been in this position before, j say wait exactly a week and then call the next day just asking if they have made a decision...blah blah blah. Since it's only been like three days do not that! I wouldn't expect calls on the weekend either. Wait till like, next Monday!

Hi OP, have you heard anything back yet?

Hi OP, have you heard anything back yet?

Yes I did, she said they are going to offer me the position! She said she's not sure if I will be starting orientation in October or November. She will be calling me next week regarding that. Will keep you guys updated!

Congratulations!

For future job hunts, take heart- even if it takes weeks to get a promised call back, it doesn't necessarily mean anything. For my current job, the nurse recruiter got me an interview scheduled right away, the interview went great, they promised I'd hear from them the following week- and then I didn't hear anything for six weeks. I was this close to taking another job when they finally called. Later it turned out they'd been on a hiring freeze but were keeping it under wraps to avoid negative publicity, but as soon as it was lifted, they called and offered me the job.

Job hunting is your whole world while you're in it, but it's just one more little tickybox on a manager and HR rep's daily task list, so try not to panic.
