Question Of The Day!

Good morning everyone,

I woke up thirty minutes ago, and had something lingering in my mind. More about life, where I am, who I am...what I want to become. But my question is often asked but....

If you had it all over again, what would you do differently?

Moreover, what lessons in life have you learned you otherwise wouldn't through experience, or other life altercations?

For me, it would be the fact you don't realize what you have until it is gone.

In my own life, loosing a job and living in a car became a reality that was all too real.

Good morning everyone,

You experienced something that many people think will never happen to them. For many of us losing a job would put us in that position very quickly. I hope that things are better for you now. For me it is to stop putting life on hold and to get my butt moving. You will always feel like you do not have enough time or money to do what we want. So we have to find a way. I have no idea how we will pay our bills if I get into my RN program, but I can't keep waiting for things to happen. I HAVE to make them happen.

I've experienced much more, loosing both my parents as well. So, you look at things differently in some sense.

But like you said, I feel right now I'm putting my life on hold. Yes, I'm going to school...but I could have been done earlier. Finding and maintaining a certain balance, motivation can be hard for sure.

My SO suffered job loss and unemployment with the housing crash and had two kids to raise. He would have given anything to go back pre kids and gotten the degree/s that would have gotten him through this tough time.

He has gotten through it and has landed on his feet but in hind sight he would've followed a more pragmatic path than one of more instant gratification and following his passions.

I would have gone to school for my BSN waaaay sooner. I feel locked in. I like my job, but I feel like I should have more flexibility and choice considering my experience. 3 little initials are making a world of difference for me.

Starting the BSN program next week.

Specializes in Medical-Surgical/Float Pool/Stepdown.

I like to hope that everything happens for a reason, even if as humans we are not always privy to the whys. Shoulda, coulda, woulda went to nursing school well over a decade before I did but...what if a decade ago I didn't take it seriously and had failed out with putting financial aid out of the reach of my fingertips? I've got to tell my self that all of my crazy life experience that I got before becoming a nurse was purposeful! :saint: If anything it has shown my kids that they will absolutely go to college!

Specializes in orthopedic/trauma, Informatics, diabetes.

I live with the philosophy that I have no regrets. Every little thing that has happened in my life has brought me to where I am. If one thing were changed, my "now" would be different and I love where I am in life. There are things I miss, but I still wouldn't change my path one bit. Good and bad. All have made me who I am and like who I am.

I get the no regrets, it's made who I am, but I think the OP is asking how you would advise him based on your experiences.

I made some choices that while I learned from them they aren't what I like to see my kids experience. I'm not going to make their decisions for them but I am going to share my life lessons.

So sorry for what you've been through. It sounds trite, but I do firmly believe that all any of us can do is look forward. I know it is hard to find that school/life balance, but it can be done. As they say...this too shall pass. And please don't dwell on the fact that you could've been done earlier, after all you are doing it now and that 's what counts.

Sometimes I wish that I had done things sooner, but more than anything I'm glad that I even did them at all.
