Question for Female Nurses

Nurses General Nursing

Published

This is just something I've been wondering, I'm not in no way trying to offend anyone... Im obvisouly a male, and I'am straight... I just graduated high school, and I'm considering my college options, which do include Respiratory Therapist, RN, Diesel Technology, Welding, and a few more...

Would you(Female Nurses) rather date someone in the Medical Field(Male RN, Resp. Therapy, etc....) or someone in another career field?

Most people will probably think this is a crazy question.... But like I said this is just a question that I've been thinking about, and I'm not trying to offend anyone in anyway...

It doesn't matter at all to me. Of course, my husband would be might annoyed should I start dating.

Specializes in Assisted Living, Med-Surg/CVA specialty.

Doesn't matter to me. My boyfriend is a volunteer firefighter and occassionally drives the ambulance, but for the most part he's not well versed in medical speak.

I'm also a Vol. FF, and Rescue Squad Member....

I think most women just want a genuinely nice guy who can hold down a job. I don't think anyone would really be like "oh, you're a nurse? Never mind. I only date pilots." If they did, their loss anyway. I think you should do what you want to do, and the right person will come along and accept you just the way you are. Besides, nurses make pretty good money, so I really don't think you would need to worry about that! As far as someone in the medical field or otherwise, each have their benefits. Someone in the medical field would probably understand when you tell them about things at work - If I told you that someone ran a 500 ml bag of heparin (25,000 units) over an hour thinking it was a bag of vanc, and you were in the medical field, you would be like holy crap that's really really bad! If you weren't, you'd be like "oh". Then there's the fact that if the woman isn't in the medical field, she'd probably be glad to have someone with that knowledge around. Bottom line, be yourself, do what you want to do, and things will work out just fine!

I know that you have a genuine question that you want an answer to, but in all reality, you really must do what makes you happy...Us females would rather date someone that is satisfied with their career thus a happier individual and more fun to be around. We really don't care if it is another nurse or a welder ( I picked that 'cuz my hubby is a welder) You must listen to your heart and go where it leads you.... Sorry I couldn't give a point blank answer but this really is the way it is......hope it helps...

my question to you is why are you asking female nurses, I am a male nurse and I to am straight (not that it matters) I worked in metal fabercation and welding for years, and went back to school and became a nurse at the ripe age of 39, it was the best think I have ever done as it is the most rewarding job anyone could imagin, you will work and work hard and long hours. As for the lady thing, well in the health field there lots of single young females, and as nurses we bond together, your conversations sometimes only can be understood by other nurses.

My husband works for a major soft drink manufacturer. He might not like me dating right now. j/k

To answer your question...makes no difference to me at all what a guy does as long as he is working :D

The first time around I married an RT. Disaster, in every sense of the word. The only things we had to talk about were work related.

Second time around I married a grocery store clerk. Granted, I'm not allowed to talk about work at home because it either bores him to tears or makes him nauseous, but it's a much better match.

:yeah::yeah:Good one, Sue!

My husband is not a nurse, but I met him at my job. He talks about his end, I talk about mine, until I start describing things that make him sick to his stomach. He also hates when I look at medical shows. We basically gossip about folks, but it is interesting because we share different perpectives. I would not mind what a man does as long as he is good to me.:redbeathe:redpinkhe:nurse:

My fiance is a gym/ health teacher. Thats hard enough because some of health care education does overlap. I would never date a nurse it would be 'shop talk' 24-7.

Specializes in EMS, ER, GI, PCU/Telemetry.

my boyfriend is an RN, and we met at work... but his specialty is tele, and mine is ER, so we have some cool stories to share that only people in health care would appreciate, but we also have our own separate "thing" in nursing that makes us different and keeps it interesting. we actually tend not to talk about work at all when we arent there and try and do things that are fun lol... but it is very cool to be with someone who understands you. my last boyfriend bless his heart thought it was so creepy when i came home with 18g caths in my pocket and puke on my shoes.
