Please help me decide how to proceed

PLEASE offer your advice!

I have worked at my current hospital for 2 years now. I absolutely love it and am very involved in a number of committees, have done unit in-services.... I have received only positive feedback from my old manager (now we have a temp. manager) and all the time from patients and their families. Though I love my unit, it is highly time for me to advance to ICU as I always had planned.

Recently, I contacted our recruiter and he set up in interview with the manager at the ICU where I really wanted to work. He said they have an opening and responded to every one of my phone calls and emails within the same day. I then met with the manager 1.5 weeks ago. For some reason, I simply did not perform well on the interview. However, I really still want to work there. After the interview, I sent an email to the manager again confirming my interest and how I enjoyed meeting her and her staff.

Ever since, I have been trying to contact the recruiter since he is supposed to give me the word if I got the position or not. He has been entirely ignoring my voicemails and the email I sent. Its been 1.5 weeks now and Im so worried. I really dont know what to do next, who to contact... I really want this specific ICU and want to stay at this hospital.

Any ideas on how I can proceed now?? Should I call the manager herself? Or wait more for the recruiter????

Thanks!!!!!

waaaittt. They probably not only interviewed you for the position, so give them time!

Contact the manager yourself. You have been trying to go through the recruiter and that hasn't worked. You can mention this when you talk to her. Good luck.

I wouldn't reach out directly to the manager just yet. Give the recruiter a bit more time and try not to be toooo persistent with emails and calls. I'm sure they're getting them and will respond when they've made a decision..afterall, they can't just leave you hanging on like that forever. Sit tight and good luck!!

guess I'm concerned because the recruiter was so on top of things every time I emailed her or called before the interview. I think something is up! Also, the manager ignored my follow-up email after the interview.

You said you don't think the interview went well. Even if you don't get the position THIS time, there are other times. No one could be contacting you because they still have more to interview also. I would give it more time for now, then after a couple more weeks, contact the nurse manager directly.

also, the next time you interview for a position, be sure to ask the question "when will i expect to be contacted regarding your decision?" if they have others to interview then they will let you know at that time. i agree with the others do not bug anyone any more. the icu knows that everyone who interviewed is interest in the position... they will let either you or hr know their final decision soon. gl! i know the feeling of waiting for what you want.

i did ask "what is the next step". the nm said "we will contact you early next week" which was this past monday/tuesday i assumed.

I agree patience is the key. As hard as it is because you want the job so bad, just wait for the call, either way it will come soon. WHo knows, maybe the recruiter is out of town on a personal matter. Dont get to worked up yet, it's only been a week and a half! Cleansing Breaths!!!!! :-)

ok, then call the nm or hr regarding their choice this week. you sound like you know how to be professional so put on your good phone voice and ask about their decision. be sure to mention that you were told that you would be contacted last week so you are following up at this time.... blah blah blah... good luck to you... if you do not get this one... you should land another one the next time since you sound like a good candidate. ;)

on the other hand, you also may want to consider another hospital if you are not making head way. the reason i say this is because sometimes directors do not want to give up good nurses (i do not put this past some of the managers in my hospital)... so you may not have a choice but to stay on your floor or look outside of the hospital. if you feel this is not the case with your employers, then if rejected, ask the icu what you can do to be a better candidate in the future.
