Please Explain......

Hi all,

I've been reading threads for some time now and have noticed something. Most new grads start of btn 24 to 30$/hr. Mostly depending on area and State. My question is, are these new grad with associate degree or New grad with Bachelors degree. am a bit confused. I know some states recomemd that you have your license. But do these new grads graduate with associate or bachelors. Please explain.... Thanks

All states require a license. BSN and ADN nurses have the same license just a different level of education. Pay is the same for both. Sometimes the nurse with a Bachelors can recieve 25 cents to a dollar more. But it is basically the same pay.

Cost of living is probably much cheaper in MS too.

At my hospital. in Chicago,IL starting pay is $26.00 or so for New Grad --

Associate Degree or BSN. We also have shift differential which increase it even more.

Cost of living is quite high in Chicago; Housing alone is REALLY high.

I make $16/hr and the cost of living here is VERY high where I live.

There are no diffs. for BSN, you make the same amount of $$$$ here regardless of your degree.

In the Chicago land area there are three hospitals which I've inquired and regardless if an Associate, Bachelors or MS entry degreed nurse the starting rate is about 23 dollars an hour.

To put things in perspective, I make $17/hr as a unit secretary in the Detroit area... I'm not sure what new RN grads make... I think it's around $23/hour.

The education gives you the BSN/ADN etc,..taking the NCLEX makes you an RN, no matter what the degree,..MUST pass NCLEX and have license to practice,...BSN at my Hosp is worth $0.50/hr,.new grads w/no previous healthcare experience start at $16.80/hr base,..before shift diff.

we pay $1 more per hour for BSN.

Not sure what the starting pay is here but it's in the high $20's. No difference for BSN vs ADN.

About $1 more an hour for BSN or certification, but if you have both it's $1.40/hr.

The NW is a very good place to be a nurse in my opinion because I live in a fairly low cost of living area and new nurses start at $26.00/hr but if they work nights and have their BSN they would start out at over $30.00/hr. Cost of living does go up in the larger cities like Seattle and Portland but in smaller communities like mine it is still fairly low (2000 sqft house for around 220k).
