NO more private loans!!!! How to finish school??

This is a disaster!! I am almost done nursing school and I contacted Sallie Mae to get my last loan for school and they no longer offer the tuition answer loan!! :crying2: That has paid for me to got to nursing school! That is how I did it! I contacted Suntrust, but because I have not worked and have gone to school full time, they will not give me a loan because I am not working. :( I called my bank where I have been a member for YEARS and they will not give me a loan either because I am not working! I have money in my 401K, but if I take it I pay a HUGE penalty! I inquired about a private loan through the site My Rich Uncle, and due to the economy they too are no longer offering private loans. I have gotten all the money I can get from the school and that will pay for tuition, BUT that still leaves living expenses for another 6 months! That is what I used the private loan for... to pay for living expenses while in school. Thanks to the ecomony and the markets, these institutions are no longer offering these loans. :( DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS?? I have to pay bills to live. :bluecry1: I can't stop nursing school now.. I am in the home stretch!! :mad: Thanks!!

I worked full time and had one to two part time jobs while I went to school. I couldn't get financial aid after I exhausted the loan sources.

Do you have a community foundation you can contact about scholarships, most counties have them, they want thier citizens to further thier education, They were genersous enough to give me 5000.00 per year.

I also got a state scholarship through the local unemployment office I just had to sign a 1 year contract that upon graduation I would find a job in the state.

Go to the financial aid office at school and inquire about nursing scholarships they see come through. Ask ask ask all your classmates "do you get any scholarships?" I had about 6 of them. One was even from the historical society of all places, 1000 a year.

THe money is out there, you just have to work to find it.

I would suggest finding a parttime job as an aide. You need some sort of income and a lot of banks are not going to just hand out money because of the current state of the economy. Plus, I agree with the previous poster, go to financial aide and see if there are any scholarships for nursing students.

I totally agree with racing-mom4. Scholarships can really help out. I got tons of them in nursing school. Was actually able to bank money from the scholarships I got.

you need to get a job to supplement your income. if possible, try to find someone with some down time that will allow you to study and/or do school work at work.

Agree with the above posts - where there's a will, there's a way. You'll find a way to squeeze in a part-time job. Or, if you do hit up your 401(k) yes, you will have to take the penalty, but if that's what you have to do, that's what you have to do.

Think of it this way - how much less debt you'll have accumulated when you're done with school.

I work full time AND attend nursing school full time... If you really want it, you'll make it happen, if not, you won't...

I suggest getting a job as well. You are in your last semester and you should be able to work, at least part time, at this point of your education. There are also many scholarship programs I suggest you look into. I definately would not quit and find some way to make it work since you are already so far. GL!

Call the hospitals for scholarships...most offer them.

I am so sorry this has happened at the home stretch! Is there a way where you can make arrangements to pay the tuition in installments? While I do know that many have obtained scholarships and such in the past, the economy is far different than it is today, and that is even changing minute by minute. What was available even 6 months ago may be tossed to the wayside, now.

And, I want to know if you are certified as a CNA at this time, because if not, it may be difficult to obtain a position in that right now. I think that if you can work, make payment arrangements with your tuition and really cut down your spending, you can make it through the home stretch. It may be hard, but, we have to have hope this close to the end of your nursing program. Best of luck!
