Hi! I am a 29 year old female, who suffers from two types of von Willebrands Disease, Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome, Degenerative Disc Disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Peripheral Neuropathy, and Chronic Sacroilitis.

Last year I had a Power Port placed in my chest for more convienient access for infusions and transfusions. The first one clotted due to Amicar. I now have another in the same location. And the relief from constant sticks and digs is wonderful.

I am a mother of a perfectly beautiful four year old boy. My son was born with Optic Nerve Hypoplasia, Septo Optic Dysplasia, Dystonia, Segawa Syndrome, and High Functioning Autism. He has care givers sixteen hours a day, as I am unable to handle such a super intensity child with a hematocrit of 5. Obviously. lol

( I know, I should be a nurse. LOL)

I read that patients are welcome here. Sometimes I have questions regarding my medication and my son's therapy and can't always understand the doctors. I tend to disagree with doctors about the need to medicate my son for his hyperactivity. I hope that in the future a nurse can help me to understand better, and give me opinions from first hand experience! :)

Thank you,

ECKPowers

Welcome to All nurse's, but we are not here to give medical advice.

Yes...welcome. It seems between you and your son you have quite the handful. As Christine stated...we can not give medical advice as per the terms of service on this site. We are, however, a very friendly bunch and you are of course welcome to participate, ask questions etc. I hope you find the site useful!

I know. I just meant questions about therapy's, procedures etc.

Like, is it common for my power port incision to itch?

(which I know is common.)

But just needed a question to explain my reasoning. :)

Yeah. It's a handful! lol

It seems like we got all the bad genetics:)

We handle it well, and fight through it.

My motto is : It could always be worse. :)

Thanks for the welcomes:)

:welcome:

We're glad to have you here, and we certainly love having patients participate in our discussions. While we can clarify or help you comprehend what you've been told by your physician, we cannot bestow any medical advice upon anyone. :)

We're pleased you registered to become a member!

Hi ECKPowers, I'm a patient also. Besides being informative, it's fun here too. Some of the nurses are a real kick. And learning what they go through dealing with hospital politics, moody doctors, difficult patients, unpleasant procedures has been a real eye-opener, and humbling. I love these gals!! (oops...guys too).

Welcome.

Although we cannot give you medical advise, maybe you can help us with insight to help others-just like anxious patient does.

Please feel free to contribute to any discussion.

Welcome to allnurses. This is a great place to hang out but remember,..we are here for "shop talk". We talk about work, we chat about new technology, differences in practice, and give each other advice on how to better our work place. We also often vent to each other about how our jobs sometimes get the best of us! We whine just like bankers and cashiers do, but it seems that sometimes our complaints and rants are often offensive to those who aren't "in our shoes".

This is not a forum for pts to get advice from a nurse. You should never take advice on your or your child's health from a stranger on the INTERNET!

You are more than welcome to hang out, join in on conversation, but please never ask for medical advice as it is against our terms of service and just plain foolish as far as I'm concerned!

Again, thank you all for the Welcome.

And I will reiterate, I would never take medical advise from someone on the internet, nor would I take advise from someone I hardly know.

But it's nice to be able to pick others brains about things we have in common.

:)
