Does Lazor hair removal really work? How many treatments do you need? Does it hurt? Any info appreciated!!!

I had laser hair removal, and so did my mom. It does hurt, but it's not too terrible, and there are numbing creams you can use beforehand. How many treatments you need depends on what area you're getting lasered. Your legs, for example, could take quite a few treatments, but an upper lip might not. Be sure to go to a licensed professional!

I think this is a subject that many nurses in my age bracket are interested in. Now that I'm over 50 I find that my chinny chin chin requires more regular upkeep than I care to give it. :rolleyes:

Well I'm 22, and my mom is 52, and we've both had really positive results, so I can definitely recommend it for any age bracket! It's well worth the money!

I think I'll look into it. My only problem area is my chin. I actually have very sporifice leg hair that is blondish, so never had to keep on top of that too much. But, I have maybe 15-20 chin hairs now, enough to be a nuisance.

Couple of the ARNP's in our dept have a clinic that does this and I hear them talk a lot...I guess it works better if you have dark hair and light skin and does not work well on grey hair *shrug*.

I have light skin and dark hair, and laser hair removal didn't do squat for me. :( Upper lip and bikini line. It was way more painful than I expected (not the treatments so much, but the inflammed skin afterwards for days). I was using a national chain (Soma) and made it through 4 of the 6 treatments. All the hair grew back, plus I now have problems with ingrowns where I had never had a problem before. YMMV...but that was my experience.

Of course, I also tried to have a small tattoo removed by laser, and that too was a huge disaster. Maybe I just don't like lasers.

Lazer and IPL treatments are great treatments for hair removal. You generally need a minimum of 6-10 treatments 6-8 weeks apart.

Reasons for not having good results, are usually related to the light source not being close enough to the skin, or lazer heads needing replacement.

hair removal by Lazer and IPL is better suited to light skin, dark hair. My personal experience both as a client and a clinician in this area, is that it is more painful for clients with more hair.

Never go for a treatment, if you have a tan.

Having PCOS I had terrible hair growth to my upper lip, chin and neck - now I have the occasional hair, and it has been 5 years since my last treatment1

OK so its lasor.....I missed my spell check sorry. Thank you for all the replies and info. Would EMLA cream help to decrease the pain. How about a mild anti-inflammatory post tx?
