I know this has nothing to do with nursing. My husband rescued a kitten, very small, eyes still closed from under our house. The mama got hit by a car and we looked for others but couldn't find them. We are bottle feeding it every 2 hours since around 11 pm Saturday night(my own kids didnt have that kind of schedule).Does anyone have any experience with this.My other animals are very jealous but i guess thats to be expected. should I be doing anything special that I dont know about? Thanks for your repplies.(sp)

What a wonderful thing you are doing! I was a foster mom for a local shelter for several years and also raised orphaned and sick kittens in addition to taking care of adults and pregnant females until thier babies were weaned.

You are doing all the right things, so I hope things continue to go well. It's draining when you're taking care of such a little one, but trust me, that cat will love you and be your best friend for life! God bless you and that precious little life!

..... i have 9, (i know call the looney wagon STAT) adult kitties....

You are still safe from being declared the local crazy cat lady and being carted off by the guys with the 5 points.

My cat rules:

Any number less than 10 is not enough.

Any number over 16 is to many.

Kittens are not cats yet, they don't count.

If you can leave the house and not be covered in cat hair you forgot to pet somebody goodbye.

And living with my husband (the cat hater) I have made the following observations:

The more pathetic the story the more likely the cat gets to stay.

Sometimes he doesn't notice that a cat that is staying with us

temporarily doesn't leave.

When all else fails: sex works

When all else fails: sex works

Note to self: Plan #1,Encourage wife to adopt strays.

Plan #2,get sex!!

:roll

WE bottle raised 3 a couple of years ago. With the switch from mother's milk to formula, they got constipated, so that could be why they haven't pooped yet. Their systems will adjust, don't worry!!

Since ours had their eyes open already, we only bottle fed them 2 wks, then started solid food mixed with milk. They did just fine, and were big, healthy cats in no time. They do learn to climb very quickly so we put them in a bushel basket with an electric pad on low when they were really small. We had to put the lid of a garbage can over top of it, weighed down with a brick! The male cat crawled under the fridge TWICE and got stuck. Had to tip the fridge forward (VERY carefully!) to get him out. They learned to hold the bottle themselves very quickly. It was SO cute... the little paws coming out, and latching on to that nipple! (sigh!)

We had them for 3 years, then someone stole them while we were away on vacation, and an irresponsible house-sitter let them stay outside all night.....

thanks for all the encouragement, but i'm sad to say littlepissante didnt make it. i worked last night and my husband called me around 6 this am to say she had passed.he was devastated. its amazing how quickly we bonded.

im a little baffled as the vet checked her out yesterday and said she was strong.thanks again to all.:o :o :o

Shoot. I was rooting for the little bugger.

You did a good thing, he/she will remember you in heaven.

Poor little kitty. At least you gave it your best shot.

Pappy

I'm SO sorry.

When I purchased the first batch of milk replacer, the woman said to me "don't buy too much, just in case they don't make it".

I was horrified. That hadn't crossed my mind (I don't know why).

You did all you could, and bless you for that. :o

Sorry to hear of your loss,

It's better than dying alone under the house.

Because of you it felt loved for most of its life.

Pretty good quality there.

God bless you.

:sniff: I am so sorry to hear the news...the world is blessed by having someone like you...many folks wouldn't have even tried. At least pissante was "named" and 100% cared for by you guys. That's an animals dream come true. :o

you said she had fleas when you found her? flea-bite anemia can kill a newborn kitten or puppy. we've had to give transfusions because of it, in fact. she's too young for internal parasites to be signifigant. its possible she had a congenital defect the vet couldn't detect at that age. pdas are really hard to pick out on one so young. even a gross postmorem likely wouldn't reveal much.

i'm sorry for your loss. its rough. as many kittens as i've fostered, i've been through it myself far too many times.

as one who recently lost a furbaby, my thoughts are with you.
