For some reason a funny memory popped into my head when reading a post today,thought y'all might get a laugh.

When in nursing school,and I was studying the cranial nerves, and my grandmother happened to call one night.She became an RN during WW|| and worked for 54 years,when they MADE her retire she really lost a part of herself.Anyway,she was asking me about school and what we were learning,so I said cranial nerves and that we had this acronym to memorize them. Out of nowhere when I began saying the rhyme SO DID SHE !

" On old Olympus towering tops a Finn and German view some hops", our voices were simultaneous and when done we were both giggling.:chuckle Apparently back in her days of nursing school they were taught the same acronym. Almost a continent apart but we were able to share and laugh and bond in a whole new way,it's still one of my favorite memories of her.

That is such an awesome memory, and what a neat piece of common ground to share with your grandma :-)

But I did have to chuckle at what Leslie wrote, because my mischievous anatomy professor taught us the "dirty" cranial nerve acronym (on the "condition" that no one would tell the higher-ups:chuckle) and I swear that that is the ONLY one I can remember. I hope that doesn't reveal some character defect, but the traditional one just doesn't stick with me. LOL.

Unfortunately, I'm one of the nurses who know another version of the cranial nerves :D I never could quite memorize the "clean" version.

Our teacher gave us the on old olympus way of memorizing the cranial nerves but it just wouldn't stick in my head. Maybe, because to me, it just didn't make sense.

I learned another "version" and that way sticks in my head :D

Would the less "clean" version start off like this"

Ohh, ohh, ohh, to touch and feel (you know the rest)

Ct pixie, I was helping an LPN who was memorizing the cranial nervesfor her RN bridge program. I taught her both...she liked the " oh, oh, oh, to touch " version better.
