Because we should simply be celebrated for having our very presence on the floor lol! Just playing :)

But for real I think we do deserve our own week, lets look at what we do above and beyond:

Heavy lifts and always being asked to "assist" with lifting patients.

Dealing with the combative patients and family members.

Being given the heaviest groups because "were the men".

And many more :D

So my fellow male cohorts, ARE YOU WITH ME!? :coollook:

Specializes in psych. rehab nursing, float pool.

When equal rights for equal pay came about, it became illegal to grab guys to do our heavy lifts for us. All the gals on my floor do our own lifts or we grab another female to help lift. If a patient on our unit it out of control I am usually asked to assist to do my background in pysch.

so much for being special lol

Yes we need a men in nursing week!

you are going to get us all killed...:trout: be careful because the laides are watching us:smokin: i dont see why we need a week anyway. i would be happt to have the 80 lb patients just once, and to know that when we have a demeted DTing pt that its not going to be mine. just once a year is good. because than i could look ofrward to that day all year....just kidding. i love helping out...btw its all about teamwork:yeah::dancgrp:

Lol, most male nurses I have worked with end up babied by the female nurses and staff. I then have to listen to the same staff complain how the male nurse left this undone or didnt do this or they did all this or that for him. I finally responded one day "How can you all complain when you are the very people enabling him to get away with it when you jump to do his work!!!" I have worked with other male nurses that were absolutely great but I find women have a thing of picking up after them just like we do at home for our husbands, boyfriends or sons LOL. In my unit, we use a hoyer lift and nobody lifts, not even the guys;)

LOL!! That's awesome!!

I appreciate all the people I work with. And good luck with the male nursing week as it seems like nursing week in general is being pushed out of a lot of places which is unfortunate,

Nursing Week (Day) is now Ancillary Personnel Week in my facility.

Good luck distinguishing your maleness from my femaleness in nameless personnel celebration!

(However, we still celebrate Business Personnel Week, Doctor's Day and Business Administration Personnel Week)

Well I think they gave us pancakes this week ~___~ A nice clickytop pen would satisfy me more then pancakes :(

Well, I do feel that Nurses' week should be divided amongest the disciplines within nursing, and my vision includes a day for men, CNAs, LPNs, and Advanced Practice Nurses all within that frame.

I have seen where men are usually requested to do the lifting and many other things, so, I can support your desire.

Absolutely. Not only can I lift like a forklift, but I'm smoking hot as well. Just looking at me can take the edge off the nastiest of co-workers leading to a softer, gentler work environment.

Where's my appreciation for that?
