We see more male nurses (RN/LPN/LVN) more often now.

How many do you see?

If you do not have male nurses working on your floor/unit, what comments would you like to note.

One works each shift but not all work every day.

We had 6 or more at one time. When daughter was in over Christmas holidays and had to be taken to ER every nurse on AM shift was female, but every nurse on PM shift was male. Had a really terrible male nurse, but other ones made up for him. He was just not in the zone that night, he admitted it, and was glad I knew how to manage her and the IV. Loved 3 other guys working that night, they really were there for her. She was very sick and very weak, they kept on top of her and let the other guy zone out.

I'm sad to say none at the present time. We have had several male nurses over the past couple of years all of which married and left town. I miss them all.:o

A month ago I would have said 3 but two just left in the last two weeks. We are down to 1.

eleven male nurses including my husband! icus and ers seem to have more male nurses.

There are three other males in the ER besides myself. One that works the same shift as myself 11/11p and the other works nights on the other rotation and the third is the head nurse. We have one RN who was the first male to go thru the local RN program and has worked in the NICU for over 20yrs. However, I think we have maybe 10/12 in the whole hospital that are regular staff.

We have one male who occassionally works our med-surg unit 7p to 7a, but he's more of a floater, so I'm not sure he counts since he's not a med-surg employee per se.

A real interesting poll would be to related the number of nurses who happen to be male to the type of unit.. I don't know how you would do that. It would be interesting to see what kind of units they tend to prefer. If indeed there is any preference at all.

I work in an 8 bed med/surg ICU. We have 9 male RNs and 2 male aides. Let me tell you, it's a beautiful thing when i happen to be the only female on a given day! None of that moody crap to deal with! Although, I must say that I have learned that men gossip more than any group of women I know! Anytime I want the latest scoop I go to one of the guys!

Woo Hoo ! Found out today Jeff is coming back to us. Marriage worked out but the move didn't, lucky us were getting him back.
