How do you wear your hair for work?

I just read the post about hair color and now I'm wondering how most nurses prefer to have their hair for work. I know there are a lot of places that require you to either have your hair put up or to be cut above your shoulders, so which do you prefer??

Is it easier to just get a short hair cut, rather than putting it up everyday, in your opinion?

Or, do you prefer to keep it long and just put it up?

I start school in May and I'm leaning more towards keeping a short hair cut above my shoulders because I look aweful with my hair up. Plus, every time I wear a pony tail my hair constantly slips out and it seems like it would be aggravating to constantly fix it...

So what's your hair do??

Congrats on getting into nursing school!

I'm almost done with my first year.. I started back in August 09 and I got my hair cut really short.. it was stylish but short.. and OMG I missed my long hair after 4 days.. short hair is really really REALLY hard to maintain.. if you want to keep it at the short length you have to get it cut probably every 4-6 weeks.. and atleast for me the awkward stage where it wasn't short but not long was horrible!!!

So... basically if I was you I'd keep your long hair.. cause you can do so much more with it.. put it in a bun.. or use clips instead of hair ties..

I like my hair long, I wouldn't cut it for a job (it's been 15 years since it's been above my shoulders). It's easy enough to pull up. I'd still have my hands in it constantly if I wore it short/down, so this keeps it out of my face.

I just finished my 2nd semester as well and have a cute cut that's above the shoulders and I wore my hair down during clinicals. Also, if it was in an awkward stage where it was a lil too long to be down, but too short to really work in a ponytail I would just pull the front back or LOTS of bobby pins!

I actually want to grow my hair out and really it's all about your preference! I've seen plenty of nurses who wear their hair down and just put their hair up if it will get in the way real quick, then back down.

Really, it's whatever you want! Do what makes you feel good about it. You'll always be able to work with your hair :)

me too :)

low ponytail with one of those thin elastic sports headbands $5 for a pack at walmart. quick, easy, and out of your face.

My hair isn't really that long, just up to my shoulder but when I start school in Sept I'm just going to put it up in a ponytail, it's not too hard to do and it's better than a short hair cut for me. I don't think I'd look right with one.

The day I first got my job in OR I got my hair almost buzz cut. wrong!!!! Then I had to rubber band the head rags to fit tight enough!

Since then I've let it grow way below my shoulders and can twist and clip it up in less than 10 seconds and it stays that way all day. I wash it daily with Prell-gives more body than most. Easy as pie and when I wear it long people compliment me on my hair being so full and wavy.

I do a "sock-bun". Super easy, looks neat, and I don't worry about my hair all over the place either.

All you do is take a knee length sock, cut off the foot part and roll the remainder into a donut shape. Pull your hair into a ponytail, thread the ponytail through the donut, fan the hair over the donut secure with an elastic and then wrap the remainder of the hair around the bun and secure with another elastic. Takes all of 2 minutes to do and lasts 12+ hours!:nurse:

Wow, I've never heard of that before, but it sounds easy and convenient:)

Hello All,

fun post! I love to watch greys anatomy and I usually get my hairstyling tips form there..One that I love and gets the hair out of my face is...I am unsure if I can explain it but...seperate two chunks in front of your face..one where your part is and the other along the side. With each individual chunk you can braid it...so you end up with braided pieces that frame your face. The rest you pull-back in a low-ponytail and make it into a bun or straighten the remaining part of your hair and wear it back...If you dont know what I am talking about look up "Arizona" the actress on Greys that usually sports this style. :clown:
