Help with Clinical Nurse Reflection Assignments

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hello all new and seasoned clinical nurses. I have an assignment for one of my courses in the nursing program which entails interviewing staff nurses from acute care facilities/ hospitals. I am reaching out to allnurses because I believe that I can get a broader perspective of the nursing profession instead of just Texas Nurses. So if you would like to reply with your unique experience throughout your career as a registered nurse, as well your gripes and why you would not trade it for any other career path, you will be helping me further understand nursing and not to mention get a grade on the assignment.

Here are a few example questions to answer:

  1. What led you into nursing as a career?
  2. Have you enjoyed nursing?
  3. What do you find most challenging about being a nurse?
  4. What do you have planned for your nursing future?
  5. What is one thing you wish you had the power to change in nursing?
  6. For more seasoned nurses you might ask about some of the biggest changes in nursing?
  7. What do they like about the type of patients they currently care for?
  8. Where do they see nursing as a profession in 20 years, 50 years etc.?
  9. Would they be happy if their children went into nursing as a career?
  10. Did your nurse look sincere when answering your questions or do you think the fact you are a student nurse altered what they were saying?

Thank you in advance!

Ummm, your last question indicates that this assignment is to be completed in person with YOU doing the writing.

This is the height of laziness - and I'd be fascinated by what your instructor thinks of you posting this.

OMG, I totally missed that. Hilarious!!!

Ok, I did copy/paste the questions from the assignment. But I have to compile the information from 3 nurses and write a three-page report including my reactions and if it changes my perspective on anything.

If anything, you're being lazy for such a short response

Wow. That's kind of rude. We aren't going to do your homework for you. Get out there and do the legwork- find nurses in person and network with them- you never know when that may help you in the future. But I'm betting with that last response you've pretty much ruined any chances of getting help here.

Surefire way to get someone to opt out of doing your homework!

She isn't wrong though... how DO you answer the final question if you aren't face to face?

O.K. I understand that in the interest of saving time and effort, you posted this online. And, you did mention having to do a 3 page report, etc.

But really, the very best experience doing such an assignment comes from doing it in person.

If you aren't sure how to go about it, you could start by getting permission to "interview" a nurse on her break if she's ok with it. For that, you need to call the facility in which he/she works, speak with the D.O.N. and set it up. It's not that hard. Or, perhaps the nurse would be willing to meet you for coffee and discuss.

Just introduce yourself and explain that you are a student nurse with an important paper to write regarding_______________.

I had to do a paper on what it was like to be a Child Psychologist, and it was required that it be done in person.

You can have interaction, see the body language, hear the tone of voice to truly glean what you need.

We aren't trying to be unkind here, just emphasizing the importance of what you need to do to get it right.

You can do it!
