hey there!

i just got married couple of months ago. i am reviewing now for the state board. my school already sent my transcripts and other requirements to the board of nursing. my transcripts has still my maiden name. what should i write in my application form? my new last name or my "single name" ? i do not want any delays or any discrepancy on my application. i want to make sure so they can process and evaluate my papers on time. kindly help me if you know anything about this. i would greatly appreciate any knowledge you have on this matter. thanks guys! :blushkiss

This question can probably be best answered utilizing the Mississippi Board of Nursing website. I don't know the exact web address but you can find it via any search engine.

The things that worked for me:

Read the question, decide what you think the answer should be before you read the choices, then look for your choice. Do not read the question and think about "if's"... if the situation was this then i'd do...read the question and answer based on the info given, period. If 2 or more answers are right, which do you do FIRST? THAT is your answer. Lastly, GO WITH YOUR GUT!!! You will learn with time exactly how reliable it is! GOOD LUCK!!!

What worked for me is go with my first instinct reading the choices bottom up! I don't know why it works but I was successful passing my LVN and RN boards!

Practice! Get a computer program and work on it every day!

Specializes in ER, PACU, OR.

i don't think anything you do, after you have finished school is going to make much of a difference.

truthfully, i think by the time your done you know it or you don't? it's not about taking a test, or which answer is right. it's about how you think and come about your answer.

when i finished school, everybody was worried about passing. some people studied like heck out of books, some studied old notes, some bought stacks of nclex review books with questions.

two people i knew who most viewed as very very smart, always got a's in class. they were a couple, and were supposed to get married after they finished school. they bought stacks of nclex books. they went on about how they did over 10,000 review questions, and studied for 12 hours a day, for 8 weeks!

one passed with flying colors, and the other bombed big time. the bomber did not only fail once, but twice!

that's why i say, it doesn't matter how much you do or don't do. i think either you know it, and how to handle it or you don't.

just my 2 cents

me :)

Hey Charms, in regards to the name question,it might be easier to stay with your maiden name until after you receive your license and then change it. That way there won't be any delay in taking the NCLEX, or any questions. If I am wrong, someone correct me, but I think that would be the fastest way to go.

I went to a NCLEX review class at a community college which was helpful. The thing that was most helpful was purchasing a NCLEX review computer program (I think from Borders) - probably over 1,000 questions on it -- divided into categories (med-surg, psych, women's health, etc.). It was VERY helpful and many of the actual board questions were similar. I reviewed those questions over and over and over. It helped me immensely.

You can't possibly know everything. Go well prepared, well rested, and do your best -- do NOT overthink. You will do fine. Don't fret over the number of questions you get -- some of us passed with 75 questions, others passed with nearly the max number of questions.

Uhhhhhh...I neither studied nor took practice tests. Just took the doggone thing. Computer shut off after 75 questions, passed the first time.

MY advice?? Just chill. You'll do fine.
