So, I had a patient the other day that was a little different. Well, his wife was a little different I should say. I was working the night shift and of course it was a particularily busy night (Flu season). Anyways, this patients wife was acting a little strange. She would come out in the hallway and say, "We need the nursie worsie in here." She would say that frequently through the night despite me going in there constantly. Once in the room she was talking to her husband (He's 91 she's 42) like he was a toddler! While I was listening to lung sounds she said "Oh does he have little crackely wackelys in there? " I did well with all of it until about 4am. I was standing at the desk talking with the charge when the wife came out and said, "Nursie, can we get the pottie chair, he has to have a poopie." NOT KIDDING!!!! REALLY HAPPENED! After his "Poopie" she praised him, "good job, you had a big one! I knew you had poopie in there! He's such a little stinker!" I had to lock myself in the supply room for a few minutes due to laughter, just couldn't help it!!! :chuckle:chuckle:chuckle Anyone else expierence something like this and if so how did you handle it?

Did I mention he seemed to love every minute of it!

I'm afraid that after a couple of "nursie-wursie's" I'd have said something like "And are you his little hoochie-coochie?"

I did once get very offended by an office nurse who gave me a cup and told me to "tee-tee" in it. Considering that I was a grown woman and a nurse to boot, I didn't think it was terribly appropriate.

Ha Ha Ha it was a very long night! Felt like I was working on the ped's ward but only worse! Had to hold back laughter every time I even walked past the room! To make things worse, My coworkers(whom I love dearly) took the opportunity to comment back to me with thier own nursie worsie's! I thanked them all at the end of shift and reminded them that I had the next day off and one of them would be NURSIE WORSIE next! :hehe:

I despise baby talk--never did it to my own babies, cringe when people do it to their babies and want to scream when people do it to adults....

Good Lord. I am sure it was all you could do to keep from either laughing or screaming.

We have one nurse who insists on calling all elderly patients "young lady" I am telling you she will walk into an 80 somethings room and say "well good morning Young Lady". I just want to scream.

i am not overly tall [5 ft] and some of the nurses will put their hands on their hips and talk down [in a talk down voice]

i really really hate it

Yeah, I spent some time in the supply closet that night! Just couldn't believe it was happening! When I first went into the room I thought she was his daughter, then after a few minutes I thought maybe he was her son! Drove me nuts... Couldn't help laughing though, after a while I justcouldn't take it! :hdvwl: For gods sake the man's in his 90's, you'd think toddler talk and poopie time should be over by this time :bugeyes::bugeyes::bugeyes:

Hahaha.....this reminds me of a CNA that works at the LTC facility I work at. I was doing med pass and my cart was just outside the tubroom in the hallway where one of the CNAs was putting a resident on the toilet with the stand lift. After she got her on the toilet, the CNA says, "Okay, time for you to pee-pee and poo-poo!" There was silence for about 10 seconds and then the little old lady responded, "Do I look like I'm in kindergarten?!" It was so funny. And it taught that aide a lesson, she doesn't baby-talk the residents like she used to.

Good for her!!! It isn't even just baby talk that irks me, I hate it when people call older patients by their first names without permission, or things like "Dear" or "Honey."
