Feeling totally worthless...

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Well, I just found out that I do not have a job to return to after I have recuperated from my surgery.

I really do not know what I am going to do; it's almost like there has been too much to deal with for the past few months, and this is the straw that broke the camel's back. But once your FMLA expires, you really have no protection if you are non-union.

Sigh...right now, I really hate this profession.

Sorry Fab4fan. It really stinks that your employer kicked you when you were down. I am praying for God to expand your territories. I hope your next job brings you greater happiness and opportunities.

You are worth MUCH TOO MUCH to feel worthless. But I do understand where your feelings are coming from. I am so sorry to see you "kicked when already down". It stinks. I hope you find a situation and people who appreciate for the valuable nurse and person you are, very soon! My heart goes out to you. Take care!

I believe that it's nothing to do with your skills or time off; it must be related to that early 60s Beatle haircut you are still wearing. Now a beautician might be a better adviser here than all of us caring RNs . . .

Seriously, though I have a good story. My own. Three years ago I had a year off work culminating in back surgery. Was terminated from my job (nothing personal, they said, just the employment rules at the time!). On the day I received their letter, I couldn't even walk to the mailbox to check the mail.

Three years later, I'm an independent again, loving my work, able to walk to the park and back most days without pain. Where I used to work was taken over and everything has changed - most of my former colleagues have moved on voluntarily.

One anecdote does not make a new life for you, I know that. But so often the previous posts about new doors opening will turn out OK. Remember, you're not here to enjoy it, just have the experience! Of life, that is. LOL.

I look forward to your posts Fab4fan...and I can tell just by reading that you are the type that incompetent administrators will NOT be able to keep down.

Nurses...we are surprised, hurt and angry when facilities treat us so badly, but it is a common story. They care very little for us other than to use us up...then dump us when we're hurt. We must care for ourselves!

Fab4fan, I know you will overcome this (many of us here have) and move onward and upward. Take time to heal and don't let the turkeys get ya down. (((HUGS))))

Thank you to everyone for your supportive comments. These last couple months have been very difficult, to say the least. It makes it a little easier to have a place to come where people will understand what you're saying/what you've been through.

Thanks, guys!

PSSSSSSSSST........ hey FAB ...... there is a nursing shortage!!! Its their loss, not yours !!!! Also there is such a thing as discrimination when it comes to the medical aspects of your dilema, check it out ..... I personally wouldnt go back to a facility that treated their employees in such a way...... Hope you are feeling better and on the road to recovery !!! :kiss

You just broke your foot--your brain still works!! I'm not so sure about theirs, however!

Tell 'em to blow it out their....whatever.

Get well, then you can get back to work!

My gosh--what a shabby way to treat you!! And ditto to what the above posters said--it is THEIR loss, you are not the worthless one, they are, and something better is coming your way--have faith!!

Best wishes for a wonderful job! :kiss

THEIR LOSS TOTALLY

I have come to know you a fair bit the last little while and let me tell you that you are a great person and a wonderful nurse...

just think , when you get a better job , are respected like you should be , you can write them a snarky lil thank you note

Hey idiots

thanks for being so awful, I am now happily employed and my patients thank you for setting me free of your evil clutches

We get by with a little help from our friends...

Fab4Fan, I agree with everything else that has been said here. Take your time looking, and I am sure you will find a job you love. Take care of yourself.

This is not great for you right now. But everything happens for a reason, and you'll probably be happier later on. There are so many opportunities for nurses right now that seeing someone treated this way just makes me ill. Everything will work out for you!
