So... I transfered from my position as a CNA on a med/surg floor to a tech position in the ER about 3 months ago. I was so happy to transfer and now I have realized that the only people I get a long with are nurse's and techs that A) I knew from the floors and B) techs I knew from High School [most of the techs in the ER were high school classmates... we're all around the same age]... There is so much favoritisim in the ER that it makes me sick I mean the same nurses work Triage over and over again which to them is a vacation compared to being assigned to the main ER which is crazy... 40+ patients in bed at any time is crazy. I constantly get harassed by the nurses for 3 EKG's at a time, dip like 10 urine samples. ooo and on top of that i got yelled at for waiting for a 7 yr old to get his CT of the head... mind you the mom wasnt with him and he was scared outta his mind. I also work in an ICU and I absolutely love it... I think I am not cut out for the ER drama.... or is this just where I work... sorry for the vent.

I have left some ERs that are like you describe. Don't give up on the ER until you try someplace else. I think it is just where you are working. There are some decent ERs out there, you just have to keep trying until you find them; and, when you do, you will not want to leave the ER.

I have worked in some ERs that I went once and never went back to. Totally disfunctional. And I have worked some that were like heaven.

No two places are alike. You are in a bad one, but don't give up on all of them just yet.

There are good points and bad points about the ER I work at right now.

Sure I have friends at work. And yes, I love working with some people (because they're hard working and we just gel so well) and couldn't care about some others...

But over all, it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than my old med-surg floor job.

Waaaay, waaaaaay better.

Personally, I try to stay away from the drama, do my job and then go home. I learned that lesson from my old job.
