Dubai. Yes or No?

If I wanted to pratice nursing in Dubai as a U.S. citizen how would I go about doing that. Also what are you thoughts on working in Dubai. Have you work there before? Etc. Please Help. Are there any website to go to or other links? Thanks for your help.

I know two nurses that worked in the middle east. But they worked there before all of this anti American sentiment. If you are American, and maybe not Filipino or Indian. All due respect for them, I would say don't go. We have a nursing shortage here. We have Americans here that need our service. Although because of the economy it doesn't seem that way. Anyway, those are my thoughts.

I say go for it. Dubai is a third world type of country with a couple of nice tourism areas so just be careful of placement. Also, typically they want women... their religion is very prohibitive of men touching other women or their women even being seem by another men. So I would be surprised I they would hire a man, I say this cause it looks like your name is Mike from Your screen name.

I would be very careful doing anything in that part of the world, especially being a woman, an American woman at that. Having been there in the past, courtesy of Uncle Sam, I can say the situation in that part of the world is very volatile. Besides, Dubai is in Big trouble financially, having to have huge infusions of cash from the Saudis just to stay afloat. I'd research very carefully and thouroughly before you make a decision. You'd be at the mercy of whomever is in charge, far away from home and with limited resources. Take your time, Please.

Nursing shortage in the U.S.?? How do you figure? All I see is a shortage of nursing jobs...

Go for it, Mike! Of course, that's only my personal opinion, as I've never been there, but I've heard that city is a really cool place to spend some time in. Good luck!

Dubai is probably one of the safest places in the Middle East. Its like the Beverly Hills of the Arabic countries. Cleveland Clinic is opening a hospital there in 2011. If I went over to Dubai I would definitely work for an American hospital. If this is something you really want to do..GO FOR IT

Dubai is hardly a "third world" country. Not sure where that mis-information came from.

Dubai is not even a country, let alone a third world country.

To the OP, my best experiences with hospitals in Dubai have been American, Wellcare and Neuro-Spinal

My grandfather did a lot of business in Dubai back in the 90s, so I would go there for summer vacation. I was living in India at the time, and to me, Dubai was in some ways a reminder of the US, which I missed a lot. I would take the job. There's a lot to do over there.

My cousin works there as a teacher and she is LOVING it. She gets paid really well and Dubai is very progressive.

Per my cousin, if you're Jewish, it's best not to go

My aunt lives in Dubai. She hates it because its so hard to adjust. Do your research.... its a whole other world.... Vacation/tourism is not the same thing as working/living there.

"to work in Dubai one should have minimum 3yrs working exp-now most of the hospital asks for 4yrs BSN for a staff nurse post.English and working knowleddge of arabic is necessary.to work in govt one should have MOH license and to work in private[ DOH license[which u get after passing exam[maximum 3 attempts allowed]-to appear for exam u need to verify all ur nursing cert.-and license almost same way cgfns does]this is for asian graduates.graduates from UK /US etc are exempted from this exam. For the same post a local arab person gets higher salary than an asian employee.Givt jobs pay better like 4000Dhs plus but there are nurses getting just1200 dhs and working two shifts in private 4dhs=1US$.standard of living is very high.taxis are very expansive-Driving lic-is very difficult to get.Think twice before landing in Dubai if u are coming alone. If you have someone to support then it should be fine.thanks"
