  1. As long as the class enhanced my knowledge or If I could state how this class would provide clinical growth, I did not have to be enrolled in a particular program. Technically, I was a graduate student who had not declared an advanced nursing focus.
  2. Taking a class at the graduate level is best but the classes may be difficult to enroll in if your a non matriculating student. I took advantage of my employers tution reimbursement. I enrolled in adv. pathphys and pharm but had a very difficult enrolling in other science courses. I recently stumbled across the university of florida's graduate certificate geared towards medical students. The program offers a medial Anatomy with a 2 credit lab=5 credit total. I'm going to take it this summer to help "boost" my science GPA. They are a little pricey but worth the $$$ if CRNA is truly your dream. Certificate Medical Human Anatomy and Histology
  3. I've seen some good options on Craiglist for housing but it seems the bargain maybe better if there are two people.
  4. I only doing three months starting n January. Didn't want to work Christmas or New Years
  5. Hi everyone,I have an interview this week to work in the SICU at Naples. I'm looking at the 3 or 4 month option. Does anyone know what rate that would be? Anyhow hope to see a few of you this winter!
  6. Has anyone worked at this hospital before? How was the the pay, experience, housing ,etc.? Thanks
  7. So if I take the FREE Housing and FREE medical that should lower my pay rate? I don't need to make a ton more of money just enoug to keep even and feel like I should have stayed at my current job. If I maintain a tax home in a different location, then state taxes are not removed from my travel check? I'm just trying to figure out how I can negotiate the best contract and pay possible.
  8. I am interested in traveling nursing this summer and want to know what's in a pay rate. I've read plenty of info but I still seem to not comprehend. My goal is to travel and bring home more mula than I make now. For instance my current base pay is $34/hr, not including shift diff. I assume that if I take a travel nursing job working CVICU only, I need to have a pay rate similar or above to come out on the plus side. Experience travelers please weigh in. Thanks!!
  9. I have read multiple posts asking others to critique their chances of getting into nurse anesthesia school based on GPA. If you truly want to become a CRNA...just go for it. Do what it takes to boost your GPA,GRE and your overall resume. Don't let anyone discourage you.."where there's a will there's a way"
  10. The final choice is yours but I would go for a bachelor's. If you think about the economy, a lot of employers are preferencing bachelors over an associates, especially for new grads. I went to Mount Carmel and graduated in 2006 and I didn't owe 36000..there may be more to that story. I have many friends in the Columbus area and the job market is hard for new grads even if you are a nurse. You should do whatever you can to give yourself an edge in this job climate.
  11. My apologies I meant pulmonary airways...thanks for providing such great literature to make this "evidence based practice".
  12. You did the right thing by turning down the O2 and the nebs helped to dilate the pulmonary arteries which allow for more gas exchange. The fact that the lady felt better with less oxygen may mean that she is a CO2 reatainer. The pathophys behind COPD is that the central nervous system is less sensitive to CO2 levels. The peripheral chemoreceptors begin to somewhat regulate the respiratory drive but happen to be more sensitive to O2. The ladies body may have said we have too much oxyegen we don't need to breath which may have increased her CO2 leading to her feeling SOB. Too much O2 for COPD is a common mistake but congrats for saving a life and avoiding a trip to the ICU.
  13. Remember it is a contract and if they gave you a sign on bonus you may need to pay the hospital back, so yes they can withhold your check. Sorry...hope the contract was worth breaking.
  14. Looking at all the other post, a few seem a bit harsh. If I'm reading between the lines correctly it seems as if your upset because you felt like your assignment was too heavy and you didn't get a lot of help from the charge nurse. Days like those are rough!!! But there are times when we have to accept the nursing profession for what it is. The charge nurse could have been very busy. She would have been very hard to observe in an accuarte state since you were busy also. I find it far easier to find a scapegoat on bad days than to admit that maybe someone did all they could do to help you. At this point I would go home, relax, have a glass of wine and let work stay at work.
