Dean won't send my graduation confirmation to Board of Nursing in my new state?

Hi,

I just wanted advice and to clarify my understanding. I just passed my final hesi (YAY!) and am set to graduate now. I have an issue. I explained to our admin that I'm moving from TX to Florida the WEEK AFTER I complete the HESI. This was not a negotiable thing.. my husband is already living there as he took a new job offer and we have a moving truck scheduled for me as well as plane tickets, etc.. The admin said it'd be no problem to send my confirmation to the Florida BON. When I went to reclarify that to make sure that they remembered to do it, the dean came out and said "No, you just need to take your NCLEX in Texas. The test is the same everywhere so just take it here."

I don't have the time or money to sit around TX for a month. My lease has expired, my plane ticket is non refundable, I'm living apart from my husband and the admin lady told me that this would be no problem months ago. This seems hugely inconsiderate of my personal needs considering him sending it is the cost of a stamp and changing a single address, the cost of me taking it in Texas is either another month away from my husband or $400-500 for a plane ticket, $130 for a rental car to get there + booking a hotel.

My questions are the following:

1.) Can I take the transcript up to the board if it's sealed, myself, and have them confirm that way?

2.) If not, how should I go about this? Our dean is ... unpopular, to say the least, and this seems like such a trivial thing for him to not want to do.

Please help!

Call the Board and ask, but I assume no Board will accept paperwork from the student.

Do you have an adviser still? Please tell them what you're dealing with. Someone higher up than you will have to get to the dean or over his head in order to help you. This sounds very petty and I can't understand what the reasoning is behind his decision.

You asked if they could send your paperwork to Fla BON, which they said they can. When you talk about the dean, he is referring to NCLEX, not which state you are getting your license in. You can take NCLEX in Texas and get a Fla license. Maybe he was confused that you were going to be in Texas for another couple of months and he was just letting you know that you didn't have to wait until you move to Fla to take NCLEX.

Once you get your ATT, you go onto the Pearson website and choose the testing site for NCLEX. The school does not choose where you take the test.

Is there not a way to request a transcript to be sent from your school to the Fla BON via their website? It should just go through the records department, not the admin. I am a bit confused by this whole thing. You should be able to have a transcript sent wherever you choose.

Yes, you can take the NCLEX wherever, but you still have to apply for licensure in your state of residence. Thus, the Fla BON will need the records.

I moved the day after graduation from RI to IN. I had no issue applying in Indiana for my license and I did everything through the IN board of nursing. We had paperwork we could fill out to expedite the process in RI before we left, but I just didn't fill it out since I wasn't going to be applying for a RI license. I'd just go through the FL BON for your license and let them request the transcripts/facilitate the process. Unless you have some kind of hold on your records (nonpayment or something like that) I don't think that they can withhold them.

No, you don't. You can apply for licensure in any state, regardless of residency, as long as you meet the education requirements.

i don't think that was kiszi point, you need to be lic in the state in which you intend to work, in this case Fla.

My mistake. Yes, my point was that the OP needed to apply for a Fla license, and where he/she takes the NCLEX is not the issue.

Please let us know how it turns out, OP.

I finished nursing school up north and moved to Florida a few days after graduation. I applied directly to the BON in Florida rather than my home state. My school also did not send confirmation directly to Florida. It wasn't that they refused, they just had a system in place to send it to my home state and didn't want to be bothered. You can 100% do it yourself- you just need to get copies of your official transcript stating your graduation date and degree conferred and send it to the Florida BON. It took me about 2 weeks longer than my nursing school friends to get my ATT for NCLEX just because I had to wait for my official transcript to be ready at the school, but otherwise the process was really smooth and easy.
