I am still a prenursing student so I just don't know very much. I know this is bad and probably very very bad, but trying to find out if there is any hope. I have an online friend that I have had for about three years now and her little boy was just diagnosed with a brain tumor. I don't have all the details, but this is what I know. The tumor is about the size of a walnut and has spread to his spine. I have just been upset all day. Her little boy is the same age as my daughter (just turning 2). It is just so sad. I am not feeling very optimistic, but wondering if there is any treatment for this at all.

I am sorry about your friend's child...there are so many types of cancer and many that respond very well to treatment. These days cancer is not always a death sentence-many people are living with it every day...The child's must be identified and staged and then a treatment plan discussed....There are many excellent hospItals in the country for children with cancer-and there is always some hope-if not for a future then at least for a good day-and a good death-in the company of your loved ones and without pain.....

Teresa, sorry to hear about your friend's child being ill. As another poster said, there are many types of tumors, as well as effective treatments for many of the tumors, so the diagnosis does not necessarily mean a death sentence.

A very good source of information is www.braintumor.org .

Sending positive thoughts.

The tumor must be typed and it should be determined how much it has grown. They have made great steps on the treatment of cancer don't despair yet. I have a brother that has been cancer free for over 10 years with non-hodgkins lymphoma....I have a great trust of the oncology field at this time. My prayers are with the child for complete recovery.

Thank you so much for your encouraging words. I have been so sad today. I am glad to know that there is some hope.
