Hello Everyone. My name is Jenilee i'm starting at Galen this April 15th 2013. Doing the two year/24 month RN program @ st petersburg campus. I'm looking to start a thread for other students starting in April, and also any student who is currently attending, or looking to attend Galen. I'm going to try my very best to keep an eye on this thread throughout the entire length of the program. I noticed there really isn't any threads i could find talking about Galen. Up to date anyway... So with that said please feel free to ask, comment, etc.

Thanks, Jenilee:)

They showed me this Video in student orientation.

Congrats Sonia! I am not sure how the 2 yr program works. I am in the LVN-RN bridge. I believe that all of the nursing programs work the same though. Galen requires that you do at least 51% of your classes with them. I decided to do A&P 1&2 over again since I received low 80's in both courses. I am also taking College Algebra and Lit at Galen. So far I do like it. I do not really care for the Nursing Informatics course, but it is an easy A if you just follow directions. Good luck!

Like Kaligirl I'm in the bridge program. I do the online classes. You have to take a certain amount of Galen credits to graduate from there like she said so I took micro and sociology at Galen. All of my other credits easily transferred. The less you take at a time the easier your schedule is. Some are struggling this quarter because they have one more class than I do this quarter. My main issue has been clinical sites. I am constricted to weekends since I work full time Monday -Friday and the weekend clinical sites are limited. Next quarter I have to drive to Manatee Memorial Hospital. My only other choice was Bartow, FL. Regardless I will have a hospital clinical so I am happy with that.

Hi I'm going to be starting at Galen College in San Antonio in January and I came across this post! There aren't very many updated posts for Galen that I have seen so far, so I was just wondering. Did anyone use Sallie Mae to cover some of the costs of tuition, and if so, how did that process go? It would also be cool to see how everyone is doing in school as well :)

Hey! Congrats on a starting school. I am starting the 2nd semester in Jan @Galen San Antonio. I am not using any loans, just my husbands GI bill. Do you have to use the Sallie Mae loan? Is the Federal Student Loan not an option for you?

Kaligirl02, I'm also starting at Galen, SA. I'm using my gi bill. Are you using the Chapter 33? Can you tell me how quickly Galen got their paperwork to the VA? I'm not even seeing I'm enrolled at galen according to the va which worries me that they are taking their time on my paperwork...

I am using the post 9/11 g.i. Bill I believe. I did the paperwork the end of September with the VA. I did not hear anything back from them until the beginning of November, received a book stipend on Thanksgiving and received the first tuition check the week before Christmas. I do not believe it was Galen who took soo long to process the GI stuff. The VA says it can take up to 6 weeks to certify and verify your eligibility. I paid out if pocket my first quarter, but was reimbursed by the VA. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info!

Hello I am an LPN and originally relocated here from VA. So it's hard searching for a school to get good training and good instructors and of course price. I am glad I found this thread because I have an appointment with Galen in St. Pete on 1/21/2014 and I am really picky with the school because I had a bad experience with my previous private school. I am not looking for a perfect school but a school that takes pride in The Nursing concept I want good teachers that care because think about it we are nursers and as nurses we need to be on point with our skills because patients lives depend on us. So with that said Does anyone have any regrets starting a journey with Galen and any tips or reviews of the overall nursing program at Galen. I would really appreciated thanks.

I just visited there and I am looking for another school. As I was in the waiting area two students were there discussing a exam they had just completed and I asked them some questions about the program. One of the girls wrote on a piece of notebook paper DO NOT GO HERE!!! They told me the place is a nightmare they showed up for clinicals with no instructor they also did not get the pre natal training needed. I have heard many bad things about this place before and I am really second guessing this school.

They also have a bad habit of not turning in financial aid paperwork and not notifying the students. You only find out you have a balance when it's time to graduate and they won't release your paperwork unless they pay a balance of thousands of dollars. My sister went through this as did several others in her cohort at the St Pete campus. If you do go there, make sure you stay on top of financial aid the entire way through the program!

I guess there are always issues. I have not had any financial aid ones. All I can say is 5 months and I'm done! I'm so glad I did not wait.
