U.S.A. Florida

Hello Everyone. My name is Jenilee i'm starting at Galen this April 15th 2013. Doing the two year/24 month RN program @ st petersburg campus. I'm looking to start a thread for other students starting in April, and also any student who is currently attending, or looking to attend Galen. I'm going to try my very best to keep an eye on this thread throughout the entire length of the program. I noticed there really isn't any threads i could find talking about Galen. Up to date anyway... So with that said please feel free to ask, comment, etc.

Thanks, Jenilee:)

They showed me this Video in student orientation.

Warning: my first bad experience with Galen but it's a huge one for me! I go to schedule my LAST quarter this week and there are NO weekend clinical spots offered for the online students. This is what we were promised since the program is geared towards working students. I am livid and so far no one is helping me. There is not even an option at all to "choose" anything - instead we all get automatically scheduled for Fridays at Manatee which is all the way in Bradenton, FL.

This is not an option for me since I am the only nurse at my job on Fridays! Even if I did another week day that means I cut my pay by a whole day at work which is not easy to do.

If you're considering Galen for the online bridge program do not listen to the guarantee that you will only have to attend campus or clinicals on weekends or after 5pm Monday-Friday.

Hello thank you for your review on your journey with Galen...

I looking to start the online course in July. Do you have any tips for me? How did it work out with the clinical scheduling? How often do you have to go in to the school?

It depends on what quarter it is and what you transfer in. If you go to my profile and see my posts you will see me list a lot of what my previous quarters have been like.

My last quarter (6) has started it is 11 weeks and Monday 5pm-9pm I will be on campus for lab. Wednesdays I will be at a hospital for a 12 hour clinical day. Two other days (which have already been told to me) I will be on campus to take the HESI tests. My first lab will be this Monday so I will find out then if there will be any other dates I have to be on campus.

Good luck!

Hi I am currently awaiting my approval for July at the St. Pete campus. I was looking to find my own apartment but I would need to work at least 5 hours for four days a week and wanted to ask you about how much time school altogether takes from you? because my thoughts were not only would I use my three days off to study but also the rest of my days after work I would put towards school as well. Is it all together incredibly time consuming to the point where that sounds irrational for me to pursue? thank you so much!!!

Hey guys i'm having a hard time keeping up with this blog. I honestly would love to answer any questions you may have, its just time consuming trying to work through this website.

It depends on your dedication. I do the bridge program online so that I can work full time. I also have two young children. It is not easy but I am almost done. I am determined.

My boyfriend works full time and does the full ADN program. He has had some hiccups along the way and he sometimes cuts his hours back to about 30/week. They are flexible with his days off because his facility is open 24 hours and knows he is in school. My job is only open M-F 7-6 so I am limited to when I can work. I just leave early for days I have to be at school by 5pm. Then I take off when I need to for clinical or exams.

Hey all how many credits can transfer in? Looks like if I went to galen I would have to redo A&P cause they are older then 5 years, redo a psychology cause I have intro to psy instead of developmental. I haven't taken pharm at a transferable school so I'd have to take that. As well as micro. So to get the cost down should I knock some of these courses out at a local CC? Any recommendations?

I was attending SPC years ago and ended up transferring to Galen this past summer and started in October. Luckily, I enrolled prior to the 5 year rule (by about 2 months) so it didn't apply to all of my math and science courses (it's one of the major reasons I transferred, my GPA with a community college was actually pretty high and I had been accepted but declined several years back due to scheduling issues at SPC. I wanted to find a good school that would take my credits!). Anyways, to answer your question, 51% of all the credits for the degree must be from Galen. I had too many credits so I had to choose which ones to redo. Are you doing the 2 year or the LPN bridge? I'm doing the bridge program and I have already take developmental psych online. I passed Excelsior's Credit by Exam for this course back in 2006. I found it interesting but an easy "A". The computer course is also easy that's required to be taken at Galen. I would recommend getting your transcripts and talking with an admissions counselor. They will tell you which courses will transfer from where. Then its up to you to decide where you want to take the ones that you want to take an a community college to cut costs. In the end the only general ed that I had to take at Galen were the computer course, developmental psych, sociology, and literature. I am realizing right now that literature is a lot of writing so a heads up if you're not into that thing that a different humanities course at a community college may be wise. Hope this helps. Good luck to you!
