  1. Hello everyone I am currently getting ready to take my Nckex RN and I have been getting some emails on tips on how to succeed. Ok listen up first of all you are a nurse and no matter what we have to stick together and help each other. To be successful on passing the predictor and Nckex we have to remember trying to study is irrelevant because how can we study for something we don't know what kind of material is going to be on these tests. So with that said you should be reviewing what you already know and brushing up on the subjects you are weak. Then test taking strategies is a must I use Saunders and Kaplan because for me it helps myself confidence and it helps me not question myself. Then I do a lot of Nckex tests style using any source because if you can answer any question it doesn't matter what source you used. Also avoid answering any question on work related experience because the book answer has nothing to do with real world. Always use the ABC's then Maslow and remember keep your patient alive and safe. When you are answering questions try to reword the questions and using your reworded question try to answer it with the provided choices. Lastly don't overwhelm yourself the day before don't study just relax and enjoy yourself I usually listen to Motzart or some kind of symphony to help me relax. For instance I had a question about a patient having an ectopic pregnancy here's the question. A woman is admitted to the hospital with a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. A laparotomy is scheduled. Preoperatively, which of the following goals is MOST important for the nurse to include on the client's plan of care? A) fluid replacement (correct answer)) B) pain relief ( is considered a psychosocial problem) C) emotional support ( same as 2) D) respiratory therapy( it doesn't make sense no where in the question does it say the patient is having difficulty breathing) When I first saw this question I was ok easy is 2 she's in pain and I would of argue but after reading the rationales I finally realized. My patient lost a lot of blood and if I don't give her fluid replacement she could die. Who cares if she's in pain right now I have a patient to save. Answer one trumps answer 2 and 3. Realizing why you got an answer wrong is the key to success because if you choose to be a nurse you have a calling and its our job to keep our patients alive and safe. Good luck future nurses you guys can do it we got this.

  3. Hello I am an LPN and originally relocated here from VA. So it's hard searching for a school to get good training and good instructors and of course price. I am glad I found this thread because I have an appointment with Galen in St. Pete on 1/21/2014 and I am really picky with the school because I had a bad experience with my previous private school. I am not looking for a perfect school but a school that takes pride in The Nursing concept I want good teachers that care because think about it we are nursers and as nurses we need to be on point with our skills because patients lives depend on us. So with that said Does anyone have any regrets starting a journey with Galen and any tips or reviews of the overall nursing program at Galen. I would really appreciated thanks.
  4. thanks and definetely i will be brushing on my lab values and food choices because i had to realize that at this point either i know and have it in me to be a nurse or just throw in the towel. i refuse to give up because i am a nurse and once i get my license there is no stopping me..good luck to all future and wonderful nurses
  5. I just wanted to update that I retook my exit exam on 3/24 and passes with a 75.3!! I am happy that I finished school I am waiting to take the boards. The only tips and strageties on passing the exit exam is to brush up on your labs and normal levels and also read a lot on medsurge and leader/nursing priorities. Good luck everyone!!
