GA BON no longer accepting Excelsior education; Speak up Cont. Updates!!

Published

Hey All,

I aM floored. I just received notice from GA Board of Nursing that they denied the endorsement of my MN RN license because I did not meet clinical practice requirements . When I called the board, they transferred me to a their Legal Nurse Consultant who stated that effective July 1, 2008 GA would no longer endorse RN license from Excelsior College students with no previous RN experience. She suggested that I go to my licensed state and work for a while then try again, but she could not give me a time frame.:banghead:

Has anyone else experienced this. I thought we should at least have gotten some sort of notice/warning before this type of rule be adopted by the board. I am going to file a motion for reconsideration using an Attorney. Before I entered Excelsiors program I called GA Board to verify acceptance. I had been accepted to a traditional LPN to RN bridge program; I could have been almost finished their too. I am so sad right now. I have been crying for two days. I think I will need to see my doctor for Zoloft.

I have been an LPN for over 13 years doing Med/Surg for at least 10. I work on a hospital unit right now. THIS IS SO UNFAIR!!!:banghead::banghead: :banghead:

Has anyone found out when they will approve applications again?? Hopefully this won't take months. I have seen my name listed and it says pending, so hopefully soon they will accept some more.

Go here and type in your last name to see

My friend's name says pending, but she was approved today.:yeah:

The state of GA could only be so lucky to have a nurse like her. I am so proud of her!!

Keep up the fight for all of those that didn't make the July 1st deadline

IT IS OFFICIAL!!!! I AM A GA RN!!!!!!!!

We need to keep fighting!!! We MUST plow the road for those who follow in our footsteps!!!! Be sure, everyone, to respond to the letter by Rep. Cooper!!

I was informed today that the traditional nursing schools are offering their traditional nursing students EXTRA CREDIT IF THEY WRITE LETTERS AGAINST US!!!!

Now, how ethical is that? Giving extra points to students to not be free thinkers? What are they teaching these kids?! To be a suck up is the road to being a good nurse?!?!

Oh, yeah, I'm SO requesting a Regents/Excelsior nurse whenever I have to go into the hospital!!! Because my experiences with the trad. RN's here has been less than stellar, to say the least!

KEEP WRITING YOUR LETTERS!!!! GET YOUR FAMILIES AND FRIENDS TO WRITE!!

WE MUST MAKE A UNITED STAND AGAINST THIS TYRANNY!! LET'S PLOW THE ROAD!!!!

I am appalled that a traditional nursing school would present to their students letter:) writing in that context. It is just ashame that people, RN's just like us would look down at one of their own and say their education was not like mine so we will write about them and say non factual based ideas. :twocents::twocents:

I am going to call the board tomorrow and see what they say about my license. I am not on the verification list and it only says pending. But hopefully they will have another meeting and license some more of us. :)

Congrats!!! Gobsmackednurse, I'm so happy for you!!! :yeah::yeah: Thank you for all your continue support for the rest of us. :) Spread the word when get back to work let us know where you end up. If Mrs. copper has it her way Rt's and paramedics will not even have the opportunity to get endorsed.

When is this going to be voted on? does anyone know? They are not going to be in session for what only another month or so.

It is amazing that a medical doctor said this! she better hope she doesnt work with excelsior nurses and say this to them lol! Once again it shows the level of ignorance that is running rampant in Georgia today!( and by educated medical professionals no less)! Congrats! to all who have recieved their license. U rock!!!:yeah:. To the Rn in ga could you please post your time frame for everything. I sent my app in Jan and everything is still pending not even on waiver list yet!

Congratulations to all of you!!!

hi i would very much like to enlighten this author about the misrepresentations in her article, which borderline on libel and slander, rather than educating the reader. i tried to log in and it would not let me post a comment. any suggestions?

Hi, everyone

Do you guys think I should still apply to Excelsior College based on 50% clinical completion. I am in Georgia and I am just confuse about applying because of all the mess that's going on related to endorsement in Georgia. I have applied other nursing school, but thye are not giving me, not even partial credits for my nursing courses that I have completed in the nursing program. Does anyone know any nursing school in Georgia that will transfer at least partial nursing credits.

Hi

HB 49 will not permit Georgia students that have completed 50% clinical completion in a traditional RN program to obtain licensure. I was recently licensed in Georgia after transferring from a traditional GA nursing program to Excelsior before the 7/2008 deadline. When I asked Excelsior why future traditional RN students were left out of the language of the bill I was told that Excelsior felt it would have had a better chance of getting passed. Excelsior also stated that anyone who applies in Georgia that is attempting to transfer from a traditional RN program will have to sign a form stating that they understand they will not be able to obtain licensure in the state of Georgia.
