Hey All,
I aM floored. I just received notice from GA Board of Nursing that they denied the endorsement of my MN RN license because I did not meet clinical practice requirements . When I called the board, they transferred me to a their Legal Nurse Consultant who stated that effective July 1, 2008 GA would no longer endorse RN license from Excelsior College students with no previous RN experience. She suggested that I go to my licensed state and work for a while then try again, but she could not give me a time frame.
Has anyone else experienced this. I thought we should at least have gotten some sort of notice/warning before this type of rule be adopted by the board. I am going to file a motion for reconsideration using an Attorney. Before I entered Excelsiors program I called GA Board to verify acceptance. I had been accepted to a traditional LPN to RN bridge program; I could have been almost finished their too. I am so sad right now. I have been crying for two days. I think I will need to see my doctor for Zoloft.
I have been an LPN for over 13 years doing Med/Surg for at least 10. I work on a hospital unit right now. THIS IS SO UNFAIR!!!:banghead:
to: excelsior college school of nursing students who have inquired re presentation to the ga board of nursingfm: debbie hatmaker , director southern performance assessment center (cpne testing in ga)
we have just been notified verbally from the board of nursing staff that the georgia nurses association/southern performance assessment center in collaboration with excelsior college will be on the agenda for a 30 minute presentation at the board's meeting of thursday september 18th, 1:00pm the board of nursing's location is macon , ga. the address can be found on the web if you are planning to attend: http://sos.georgia.gov/plb/rn/.
based on the large number of inquiries about the meeting, the board staff have arranged to meet in a larger space, next door to their main facility on coliseum driv e. the meeting is open to the public but there is not an open comment period on the agenda. gna/spac & excelsior is collaborating on the presentation and discussing how best to allow the graduates and students voices to be heard.
thank you for your many inquiries. we have also heard from supportive employers and legislators. if you have contacted your employers and legislators, please ask them to let us know of their support as well.
if there are any changes to what we have been told regarding the meeting, we will work to get the message to you. it will be easiest for us to communicate via email.
we are working diligently to resolve this issue to the benefit of students, employers and patients.
regards, debbie

this is the post. so i gather from this we will be allowed in
Excelsior told another student today that the number allowed in would be limited due to space, but at this point I don't believe anything anybody says. I am going to go ahead and make the trip, it will be worth my own self satisfaction just being there!!!Whats the worse they can do, tell us no?? Oh wait they already did that!!! Pardon the sarcasm, but I am so fed up with EC and Georgia I could puke!!!!!!!!!!
...and across the street from the GA BON is the Macon Coliseum which can seat 10,000 so don't know what their excuse will be for shutting people out.
POLITICS and dare I say LPN vs RN! especialy those that sit on the GBON and make up the rules!!
I have heard more than my share of traditional Rn's say that LPN's who do EC are not RN's because they/we didn't have to sit in a class room, put up with the crap they did while in Rn school and it is fair etc, etc, etc.
WELL I PUT UP WITH THE SAME IF NOT MORE CRAP while in LPN SCHOOL!!
Sorry don't mean to cause any more heartache, but this seems to be the GBON way of thinking too!

re: sept 18 presentation to the georgia board of nursing re excelsior college graduates
on thursday sept 18th, a presentation was made to the georgia board of nursing regarding its recent decision to no longer allow excelsior college graduates to apply for licensure by endorsement. speaking for excelsior college were president john ebersole, dean bridget nettleton; for gna chief programs officer debbie hatmaker ; amy moore, lpn spoke on behalf of the more than 1,100 currently enrolled georgia students and nancy barton, msn, rn from northeast georgia healthcare system spoke on behalf of georgia employers who are supporting many of their employees to attend excelsior college.
the georgia board of nursing at their september 18th meeting decided to take no action and referred the issue to the education committee, which meets in october. dr. debbie hatmaker, gna chief programs officer has officially asked to be on the education committee’s agenda as a speaker.
we expect that excelsior college will be sending out more formal information to enrolled students. gna will also place information on its website at www.georgianurses.org.

I read a post here on this board that said, because of the expected number of people, they are going to be holding the meeting across the street, in a bigger hall. So I am guessing that means they are going to allow people in there.
